Mh bulb and ballast help.

I bought a 600 watt mh bulb and a 250-400 watt sun sytem balast ive been running the mh bulb for about a week now and ive noticed a rather annoying noise has started.(very high pitched noise) i did buy this bulb used for a unknown amount of time but i looked at it and it didnt seem to have any outstanding issues and turned on to the expected brightness but im worried it could fail? i was told running 600 watt bulb on a 400 watt ballast was not favorable by any means but i dont have much time to go out of my way to find a 400 watt bulb this past week so i just let it run. but i know running less watts is better then running more then the reccomended amount atleast. im gonna get a new bulb in the next 3 days but should i be worried enough to just turn it off right now and go get the right one?

That high pitched whine is normal I know I've heard that from hid lights.
Using a 600w bulb with a 400w ballast is ok, dimmable ballast are common place I've 2 in the cupboard you can use 1 bulb but I changed the bulb with the wattage just because
