With marijuana legalized in Colorado and Washington, and dozens of other states moving in that direction, it was only a matter of time before Big Ag and Big Pharma stepped in to capitalize on the demand for cannabis.

But GMO (genetically modified organism) corporations and scientists aren't so interested in the whole bud, butane honey oil, errl, shatter, bubblehash, and other products our marijuana growing community has been producing for decades.

Instead, they want to change marijuana and marijuana processing so consumers get some of what marijuana has to offer, but not all.

In most cases, what they want to do is eliminate natural THC, so we don't get high.

They'd like to create high-CBD industrial hemp weed that could be used for industrial purposes and for limited medical purposes.

Industrial hemp is referred to as "rope instead of dope," and corporations have already patented or registered several varieties of it.

Monsanto and other companies are reported to be working on GMO industrial hemp marijuana that produces little or no THC and can be grown worldwide instead of in mostly-northern regions.

Most current hemp varieties grown south of Canada and nearer the equator produce THC in amounts that exceed industrial hemp legal limits.

The industrial hemp issue is important also because hemp pollen is a cancer that spreads in the air, pollinating high-THC marijuana plants even in hydroponics indoor cannabis gardens.

You can read more about that issue in this article on hemp versus marijuana.

The main thing to realize is that large-scale industrial hemp agriculture would harm marijuana growers near and far who want to produce seedless high-THC buds. Why?

Because hemp pollen travels thousands of miles and gets into all but the most sealed and filtered cannabis hydroponics grow rooms.

GMO companies also want to manipulate marijuana plants so they produce target cannabinoids and other marijuana-specific compounds without producing much or any THC.

It's like a GMO version of the "Charlotte's Web" marijuana that has a lot of CBD and hardly any THC.

Marijuana growers don't oppose "progress," but what many of us fear is GMO marijuana will be a patented, commercial industry that gets special rights, and corporations profiting from GMO marijuana will seek to outlaw growing of the natural marijuana we've been growing for years.

You can read other articles (links below) to see what the GMO companies have in store for us, and how their ability to manipulate the building blocks of life translates into experiments that might create nightmares rather than good things.

Some growers think GMO marijuana will be acceptable as long as we can all buy strains and seeds of it and grow it ourselves.

Could scientists genetically modify marijuana to make it resistant to spider mites, powdery mildew, gray mold, aphids, thrips, drought, viruses, cold, and other problems?

It's possible.

We already see that some strains of natural marijuana are resistant to pests or diseases, while other cannabis strains are highly susceptible to those same crop problems. So maybe genetic manipulation could produce marijuana that's more resistant to crop problems.

Problem is, GMO companies spend a lot of money creating their Frankenstein organisms, and they aren't likely to share their GMO marijuana strains with us.

GMO companies like Monsanto seek to monopolize the market for various crops, and they aggressively shut out small farmers and try to limit the availability of natural genetics.

The same could happen with marijuana growing, especially since many states have passed restrictive "medical marijuana legalization" that only allow corporate growers to produce the buds.

I personally am fine with breeding my own natural marijuana and buying marijuana strains from other breeders, and I intensely dislike Monsanto and other corporate ag...so obviously I hope somehow the GMO industry gives up on GMO marijuana.

My hopes might be in vain though. Monsanto is using Uruguay's new "marijuana legalization" laws as a platform for creating patented GMO marijuana, and other marijuana GMO research is taking place behind the scenes.

EXACTLY why its IMPORTANT to preserve these current and classic genetics. once them demons at monsanto get a serious grip. trust they will be arresting whoever is making strains.. the future is upon us. time to act NOW.. great post bro..
Tmb
Respect.

couldn't agree more. preservation of genetics is paramount. especially original cultivars and landraces.

excuse my ignorance, but what is tmb?

Grassroots preservations org brother.. it takes passion to preserve and not wanna make a penny. and thats what its all about. cuz if you pay attention carefully the demons are putting alot into position. its up to the light holders to maintain our plant ina righteous manner. hit me ina Pm sometime we could collide with some rallys or pamphlets and put some knowledge into some folks..
Respect..

HOAX: If you think Monsanto just patented GMO pot, you might be smoking crack

(NaturalNews) There's a viral meme running around the 'net today that says Monsanto just patented GMO pot. I looked into it, and this turns out to be a hoax started by a parody website. (You gotta love 'em.)

What makes this hoax so viral is that it seems like precisely the kind of thing Monsanto might really do: Take over the legalized pot market with its own monopoly seeds and strains, all while engineering toxins in the GMO pot that would damage the brains of those who smoke it. Can you imagine the brain damage that would be caused by inhaling glyphosate chemicals sprayed on Roundup-Ready marijuana?

According to Monsanto itself, however, the GMO pot rumor is nothing but a rumor. Then again, Monsanto also claims on its own "hoaxes" page that GMO foods are 100% safe and healthy, so it's hard to trust anything this company says. I'm pretty sure their entire P.R. department has to smoke crack just to show up at work each day and collect a paycheck from the world's most evil corporation.

But there is one interesting link between marijuana and Monsanto that is true. According to Mint Press News:

Monsanto and marijuana do have one other, real connection: Fezisa Mdibi, writing for Africa's Mail & Guardian, reported last month that police in South Africa used Kilo Max -- an herbicide based on glyphosate, the chemical Monsanto developed for use in Roundup -- to destroy cannabis fields grown by traditional farmers, who call the plant "dagga."

Nearby villages found their "maize fields destroyed and people complaining about falling ill" after police sprayed Kilo Max.

Mounting evidence suggests glyphosate can be linked to cancer, including a recent study by the World Health Organization.

I'm posting this story because when it comes to reporting on Monsanto, we strive to get all the facts straight: NO, Monsanto hasn't patented GM pot. But YES, Monsanto is the world's most evil corporation engaged in the widespread poisoning of humanity, the destruction of the world's agricultural soils and the collapse of global seed diversity.

All that's completely true, and if it gives you a headache to ponder, you may want to toke on a non-GMO dooby passed on the left-hand side.

For the record, I don't personally smoke weed, and I don't advocate smoking weed, but I also think the failed war on drugs was a complete fiasco, and I'm totally opposed to the government criminalization of any natural plant. If people want to smoke weed in their own homes, that's their own business. In my book, this falls under the same category as Caitlyn Jenner: Whatever she wants to do with her own life is her business, not mine. Hence, I'm one of the very few people who consistently supports individual liberty and the right to choose your own lifestyle and habits.

Medical Cannabis refers to the use of the drug cannabis as a physician-recommended herbal therapy, most notably as an antiemetic.
