will you put a casing or dry layer over the colonized tub when it's ready to fruit?

.

jars look cool with the micilium growing like that!!!

i,ve never seen anyone else do it either. yet almost everybody adds a casing to cakes... hmm.

i have four more cakes to fruit and then i'm out of cakes, then the rest will all be bulk.

I have made grain, verm and coir cakes, and fruited in a shotgun fruiting chamber with perilite. It worked just fine not casing but i did use verm in the mix. I jar the grain like normal, and spawn to those little shoeboxes. They come in like 3 to 6 litre sizes. Pretty good results.

oh yeah, i'll give it try then.... it's only my last four cakes and i'm pretty happy with what i already got so why not try it without the verm!!!

sometimes my colonize right through the casing layer and still fruit.... i guess i never thought of it that way..

always learning!!!!

i'm pretty excited that's for sure!!!!
.
so i didn't put a casing on the last few cakes that i had ready for fruiting... i also did something else i never did before, i injected water into the middle of the cakes with a syringe instead of hydrating overnight from the outside in.

seems to be working without the casing though, i have pins on the third day.
.
i picked up some grow bags and a sealer to try out the gourmet lions mane. i also grabbed some really cheap black garbage bags that are super thin, i figured they would stick to the mycelium better than the heavy contractor bags i used the first time. much cheaper too!!

i was also eyeing up a UV sterilizer, heats up to 180 and uses led UV to sterilize stuff in 15 minutes. i thought it would be helpful for pre-cleaning jars, syringes, agar plates, lids... a little pricey around $100 but YOLO man... i probably would have gone to two music concerts already this month and for me and the woman that would have cost over $300 total so i might just spend it on a sterilizer since there are no live concerts.

I no I’m probably just being impatient,
Soaked for 24hrs Sunday.
Monday placed in fruiting chamber as you see here. I actually moved from a bedroom to this window where there would be more indirect light.
Temps are between 72f-80f.
Any tips from the video?
Dos?
Don’ts?
This is my first rodeo, let me have it:)

Condensation on the walls are from my hand sprayer,
The atomizer no where near leaves that much condensating moisture.

If that's a shotgun fruiting chamber with wet perilite, it should be easy to manage. Don't have to much air movement or humidity drop to low. The ver layer pretty much manages the humidity for the myc. Pretty much cruise control now. If verm gets dryish fire up that funky atomizer and see how it works hydrating.

you're lookin good from here... seems like you have all your bases covered and should have success!!!

just keep up the whole spray and fan thing a couple times a day if ya can, and your fogger will keep things good the rest of the time. the fogger is really good for air exchange.. if you can see the fog coming out of the holes in the chamber then that means its also pushing out the co2!!

did you see any pins or action when you birthed the cakes? it normally takes me a week or so to see any action if the cakes had no pins in the jars, but when i wait forever till the pins start in the jars then i get action in two or three days.

I really feel the strain has a lot to do with it too. for instance i have puerto rico that has been in my fruiting chamber for over a month is finally showing pins... this was one of the first two strains i inoculated at exact same time... the PR first pins...

the other strain i inoculated at the same time is the ecuador... these cakes are on their fourth flush already and have been my only producers until now.... fourth flush and still bringing em!!!

ecuador...

and then there is the other two strains that i inoculated two weeks after both of those above. these are the remaining cakes that i did not put a casing on and injected water inside with a syringe... that was tuesday... and i have pins already on friday!!

naked in huatia!!!

so my advice is to just wait em out, no matter how ugly they get just wait it out... cakes are sloooooooooww!!!!!!

If you like the setup you have and want to continue with it, look into mounting a small fan on the fruiting chamber connected to a separate timer, then you won't have to open it ever(just to take photos!! ) and never fan or mist...

something like this..

make sure you have a filter on the outside so it doesn't blow bugs and stuff in...

but the best of luck with the fruiting man.... i'll send all the good vibes i can through the internet!!!!!!!!!!

Solid advice, dually noted:)
I like your fan set up, if injecting water in the cake you can skip the 24 hr soak?

yes sir, i skipped the 24hr soak all together, along with the dunk and roll dry verm casing. I have one more cake in a jar that i was planning on birthing this weekend, I'll make a video that shows just how i did hydrated it. it only takes a minute or two in total time to birth/hydrate/ and put in fruiting... wish i would have seen this tip years ago!!! and no more verm casing for me... after seeing these results right here i will never dunk and roll again!!

naked cakes or nudie cakes?? hahahaha

Mr. HeLLfiReZ

So it's been a week now... should i wait? or am i ready to let the fruit fly?

.
.

I've decided not to get a UV sterilizer... not really something i'd use much... WE decided we're getting a new vacuum cleaner instead.

Oh yea she's ready. Looks good, loosen polyfill put fan in room. Keep an eye on the moisture on the myc. You want it to evaporate but maintain some. Evaporation helps trigger pinning. The droplets it holds on the surface should get smaller. If the droplets disappear, lightly mist over the tub and let the mist fall onto the sub.

You made it this far not much further to go! Good job.

Any type of cubensis will be similar. There are a few mutant types penis envy, pe albino, pe uncut. They all can be slower and more difficult to grow. Yield and potency are stellar though. I'd suggest starting with reg types first or multipack.
