My new Grow is 2 Afghan Kush Feminized, in 2-gal grow bags with FF Ocean Forest soil mixed with 20% Perlite and (so far), zero fertilizer. This may or may not have caised some nutrient deficiency, as evidenced by some early Yellowing of the lower fan leaves. But Ocean Forest is supposed to contain plenty of nutes and I didn't want to make the mistake of burning my plants with too much.

These are now 40 days old. I topped them about 15 days ago and tied them down 4-ways 10 days ago, to keep them Short. I have them in a tiny 2x2x4 ft tent. I just switched them to 12/12 today, and will begin fertilizing them with this
Oops that's pretty big isn't it lol.

I have them under a 1200w LED light by Green-Go co., at a distance of about 30 inches. The PAR value is roughly 600-650 at that distance (picture).

Input/criticism is welcome, as I'm still a Newbie. I grew some pot outdoors about 50 years ago, and I really knew NOTHING back then. Detection by the Police was a critical issue back then (all was a Felony), so when the (unknown seeds, mostly Sativa) plants got 5-6 feet tall, "Ready Or Not, Here We Come" - and I chopped them all down & smoked it, without regard for flowering or maturity.

I'm doing this On The Cheap, but sharpening my skills as I go, with input from everyone here plus Trial & Error. Thanking you all.

That nutrient you showed is just one part of a 3 part regimen. You should follow the bottle directions as close as possible.

Reason I didn't use #1 & #2: I don't want to accelerate the Growth of these plants, due to the smallness of my gro tent. Having plants go straight up into the lights has been a problem for me. I did buy a slightly bigger tent - about 15" higher and 6" wider, but that's all the room I have to work with in this little condo. 2x2x4 ft definitely isn't big enough, without having to Bon-Sai everything. I may be moving to a bigger place next year, but with prices the way they are, it may take much longer.

Anyway, they seem to be responding very well to my treatment of them, so far. Updated pics to follow, in a few days.

Update, 5 days later

My plants seem happy with me so far. I've done what I could to keep them Short, tied them down etc. Flipped them to 12/12,
5 days ago, and all seems well. TripsRabbit is correct; I should be using all 3 Advanced Nutrients (Micro, Grow & Bloom), and I have ordered the Trilogy from Amazon, which will arrive Monday night.

March 19 Friday

I might need to put in a Screen (SOG), but I'm going to try & get by without it. I'd like to remain Able to pick up individual plants & move them about, if I choose. Easier to trim, feel the Heft & check to see if they're getting enough/too much water.

UPDATE: Movin' right along. Plants are filling out splendidly. Though I Topped these and tied them down, I'm still a bit concerned that they might grow too tall for my 4' tent - necessitating an emergency setup of my new, taller tent. Will address that, only if I have to. But for now, they're doing great.

I finally just received my 3-part Nutrient regimen (Amazon) from Advanced Nutrients, so now I'll be feeding these, according to the Book.

A FIM (F**k, I missed), forming an irregular flower lol.

The Stretch. Plants seem thrilled with the 3-part AN nutrients (Micro, Grow, Bloom). No yellow leaves, no trace of deficiencies or excesses so far. I'm watering with plain Tapwater. In my area, it's supposed to be a PH of about 6. But the AN nutes claim: "Use as directed, and your PH will be perfect". We'll see.

Does anyone know how much Stretch I can expect, from these Afghan Kush Fem plants? I'm hoping: Not much more. They're in 2 gal. fabric pots w/ FFOF soil & about 25% Perlite. They're sucking up lotsa water now. Watering them every other day is barely enough (1 liter) now, fertilizing 2x /week.

DEFOLIATION/TRIMMING.....SEEKING ADVICE

Anyone think I should be Trimming or even Defoliation these Afghan Kush Photoperiods? They are doing SO famously with Advanced Nutrients (Micro, Grow, Bloom) fertilizer, which is New to me. I have left them alone so far, but man they're getting dense! I'm not too concerned about the lower buds; The Canopy buds are my priority, and there are plenty of them.

I'm a relative Newbie at this. I'm aware that the leaves are Solar collectors for the plants, and these plants are thriving as they are.

I'd hate to make a mistake now. These plants are doing Super so far, and I'd hate to stunt them or screw them up now.

It's too late for defoliation, imo it should be done no later than 2 weeks into flower. Defol any later and you risk stressing them into herm.

I would not defoliate them. Let the plants do their thing. All you need to do at this point is fertigate when they need it. 2 gallon containers are kinda small for soil grow, so you might need to increase fertigation around week 4-6, but let them speak to you and do what they want.

Looks great by the way, good luck!

I do it just to expose those bud sites but there are growers here that don’t do any defoliating. I would just do a light defoliation if you do want to do it.

Thanking You Again, one & all. I will not attempt any defoliation...not worth the risk. I will, however, pinch off any Yellow leaves. especially the ones that appear down low, as necessary. As dense as this foliage is, I'm surprised there have not been more of them, so far. Very few. 5-6 weeks to go, I think. Yahoo.

ANOTHER one of my frequent Updates lol. You can tell: I have nothing else to do. Yahoo, Pandemic. Actually I just got my 2nd vaccine shot of 2 with the Pfizer formula.

Foliage continues to get Dense, and they seem to be turning dark(er) Green, in response to the Nitrogen in the AN fertilizer Check the length of the pistils in the flower pictured. I've never had one so hairy. I hope that's an indicator that the buds will be big. Can't wait, for these babies to come to Maturity.

Apr 12th Update: New pics. Nothing to report. Slow, steady progress. Foliage dense, no sign of disease, pests or deficiency. I've only had to pick off a couple of yellowing, shriveling leaves at the bottom. Fertilizing 2x/week. Both plants consuming just under 1L of water per day, in 2 gallon bags. Buds enlarging. 5, 6 weeks to go....????? Strong Green, Fuelly smell.

Both are supposed to be Afghan Kush Feminized, but one plant is a shade darker green than the other. Probably genetics?

UPDATE April 25th 2021

Some yellowing of leaves near the bottom. I decided to add 1 teaspoon of Molasses, along with the AN nutes yesterday. Figured it couldn't hurt. I used Grandma's Unsulfured, but after reading about ("the best") Molasses, I ordered two bottles of Brer Rabbit Blackstrap Molasses from Amazon. Got it within 24 hours. It has more than 2x the Potassium, as well as 20% Magnesium, 4% Iron, etc.

Entering the Final Lap of flowering. 4 weeks down (today), 3-4 weeks to go. Fingers crossed.

UPDATE May 2nd

Not long to go, I believe. Maybe 2 weeks to go.....?

I love the smell these are giving off. Like a mix of Bazooka Bubble Gum & a bit of Citrus, like Orange Rind. Glad I'm only growing two, or the smell might overwhelm my fan & filter.

Q: Anyone familiar with the Afghan Kush (fem) strain, re: Do the trichomes turn Amber just before they're ready?

When the trichomes turn amber, that is a sign of degradation. So if you wait til they are mostly milky, with some amber, that means they are ready for harvest. Afghans are usually quick finishers, so 8-9 weeks should be plenty of time. Good luck!
