Nashville, TN – The legislative debate over the decriminalization of recreational marijuana in Nevada is getting fierce day by day. The latest group to become a part of ongoing debate is ‘the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.’ The debate is started by the president of the Ren-Sparks chapter, Jeffery Blanck.

The group is in support of the legalization of recreational marijuana. Blank has requested to legalize recreational pot in Nevada. He wants the legislators to consider the matter during the 2015 legislature. The lawmakers have to pass out the law in first 40 days of the upcoming session failing which the initiative will be passed to the next general-election ballot.

Blanck has written a letter to the legislators stating that the federal government has already spent taxpayers’ funds on its “war on drugs.” Also, the marijuana cases have been levied more on black citizens compared to white citizens. The blacks and whites equally are involved in use of marijuana, but still, the blacks are four-and-a-half times more susceptible to be charged in cases of marijuana possession. It is the eleventh worst disparity case in arrests in Nevada. Blanck said that the matter should be considered seriously.

Blanck further mentioned about the growing number of prisoners in the nation. The stringent drug possession laws related to the low-level drug crimes is the prime reason behind increased arrests in the nation.

Blanck expressed his resentment against the existing marijuana laws stating that it is the time to close the failed war on pot. Nevada should change the listing of marijuana as a dangerous drug. If the federal government legalizes the recreational marijuana, it will save million of tax dollars that can be used in other constructive purposes.

However, Dick Gammick, Washoe County District Attorney, is against the legalization of marijuana. He neither supports medical marijuana nor recreational marijuana.
