State Sen. Tommy Garrett (D-Bellevue) has filed LB 643, a full-blown medical marijuana bill that allows patients or caregivers to grow up to 12 plants and possess up to six ounces, envisions a dispensary system, and allows the plant to be used for a specified list of diseases and conditions.
State Senator Tommy Garrett of Bellevue introduced the Cannabis Compassion and Care
Act, LB643. The proposed bill would define the parameters regarding prescription, possession, and use of cannabis for medical purposes.
Garrett said in a press release "I am all about taking care of people, especially those suffering with illnesses and the debilitating effects of therapies such as chemotherapy. The Cannabis Compassion and Care Act will accomplish that goal. There are children and adults in our communities with diagnosed debilitating medical conditions who will benefit from the inclusion of medical cannabis as a treatment option. Such treatment would be tightly controlled and could only be prescribed by a licensed physician."
