Fox farm soil is fortified enough to grow in and you can just water the whole grow. If you want to build your own soil you could get the sphagnum peat moss from lowes very cheap or the sunshine mix and mix in dry amendments and or earth worm castings. Or you could just grow in that if you want to be the guy that feeds liquid ferts on some kind of schedule. Honestly nothing wrong with miracle grow its just kind of high in N but you could use some as an amendment for N. But yeah I can tell your seedlings are in miracle grow because they are showing very dark green leaf color, probably a bit of N toxicity. As for the discoloration of the leaves its normal for seedlings to have slight discoloration and deformities when they are in that stage.

Gonna have to disagree with 2 things. First being the comment about miracle grow. There’s a reason anyone who grows in soil advises against it. It’s not just the nitrogen that’s an issue it’s the overall formulation, the release of the nutrient mix in the soil, the water retention, and just overall poor quality of the soil compared to more reputable brands. And second, fox farms is a great soil brand, but in no way is it formulated to just use water the entire grow. Maybe for the first 3-5 weeks depending on the nutrient needs of the specific plant, but you’re going to need to feed them regardless at some point.

From watching that he clearly knows what he’s doing all the way around, meaning he probably took precautions and actually calculated/measured things along the way to ensure success. Unfortunately if you don’t know what you’re doing miracle grow tends to cause various issues with newer growers. Especially in the seedling stage. I’ve certainly seen some quality plants and smoked some quality flower grown with miracle grow. But they’ve been far and few. And there’s definitely much better soil options, especially for cannabis specifically. But to each their own! If it works for someone I won’t knock it, but from my own experiences I also wouldn’t recommend to someone to use miracle grow for cannabis.

Yes water the entire grow, but FFOF might get a seedling 3 weeks, while FFHF (being wood chips) sucks up more nutrients than it delivers. You need to feed FF soil just like any other $12 bag of soil.

the point still stands that without amending the soil, the fox farm only has 3 on average and 5 max weeks of nutrition... now will that get you through flower? maybe... unless you know the exact logistics route and timeline from the factory to your door, I'd just err on the side of caution and amend... takes 30 seconds. where does this, I don't need to amend my living web even come from? I know EU it is popular to use those biotabs and stuff but you see every other plant burning and hating life. there are some local super soil folks that claim the 'only water throughout' but on principle it is just wrong without a slow release already bioavilable form or slow release sugars.

Watered 2 days ago was gonna transplant outside. Felt soil today and lifted pot very light. The wind and and rain that just came through here, they wouldn't survive that. Can I continue them out in 5 gallon buckets. I put way to much work in to let them get beat up.

just support them when going outdoors,. the plants can stay in those containers for another 2 weeks or more before needing a transplant,..

Agreed. Stake them to keep the weather from knocking them over and transplant in another 2 - 3 weeks to their final home.

Nice healthy plants BTW.

My first suggestion would be get out of the miracle grow and get into some good soil, what local stores do you have? You’ll get a million suggestions for what to use, but I’d rather know what you have local access to, what’s your budget to spend on it all? Local grow stores? Hydro shops? What we working with here

Edit: and welcome to the farm!

I agree, miracle grow is not a miracle grow anything! And if you go with any soil blend! You need to supplement once the nuts are gone. Hydro all the way, I am doing my first indoor soil grow with Fox/Ocean. Each one of them ran out of new trans very very quickly!!! So I'm going to finish off this crap and I'm going back to hydro. I can change the nutrients immediately! Cannot do that in soil.

I hope you find "Yer happy" medium! If I had land, It would be a different situation.
Good Growing to all of US!!!!

I have to finish with soil, I am committed at this point. Juss keep an eye, I have heard Cal-Mag is a definitely something you might need in the future.

I'm sure other members are watching this thread and have more experience with soil. I'm just not a soil guy I guess.

I'm sure someone here will be able to help.
