Just washed 6.6 oz of flower. I’m happy with the color but I don’t think I got it in small enough chunks for drying. I tried and it was just making a mess going everywhere. With a sieve it just gunked up. In hindsight I should have sieved before freezing.

I washed, and then froze for a few hours. Then I put the hash on cardboard and popped it in a wine fridge that’s at 55 f approx 40% humidity.

Are these chunks too big? I live in Colorado so it is dry… I would hate for it to mold up on me. It was sticky af so I’m also nervous it’s going to be difficult to handle once it is dried.

Thanks for any help/info!

Check out @GNick55 videos on bubble hash. He just posted the entire process yesterday.

Also, don't create 2 threads with the same info and questions. It clogs up the pipes and efforts of others.

oh my..
you still here?

I make it into one puck freeze it then use a micro plainer grate it onto a piece of cardboard and refreeze then thaw and refreeze.

I personally freeze, wrap in a few pieces of strong parchment, and whack the fuck out of it on my counter into smaller pieces. I will re freeze after a few whacks if really sticky and even change parchment if needed. I don’t have time to fuck around because if you don’t get into small pieces it won’t dry properly and also it pops all over the place when trying to sift into smaller pieces (which you should be doing).

Parchment can bust so it’s kind of a fitness game. Sticky heads will need to be freezes fast so couple of whacks, spread it out, re freeze…do it all again. Take it sift it onto parchment, keep large pieces to do all over again.

If you don’t understand pm or look through my posts I’ve talked about my methods there at least once when speaking of bubble. A lot of the whacking shit is me tired of working with super sticky heads so unorthodox. I pmed you I wish I could share more here but it’s honestly a lot. If you get it and feel like sharing please do…I just have a lot on my plate now a days so it’s difficult to find time to explain in detail especially when it’s in-depth like this subject is to me.

so what did you end up doing?
did you get it to work out?
My wine fridge was not controlling humidity so I took it out the fridge.. everything browned up pretty dark with air drying at room temp. Also the large chunks don’t seem to be drying as well.

I tried microplaning but I didn’t make big enough chunks initially. It cracks apart

Is the move to sieve it right after it’s washed, before the first freeze?

This shit was a hassle to deal with. Getting hash out of the bubble bags, finding space to freeze it, having it thaw out and get sticky on me… now I have huge chunks of half dried hash that turn into a resinous ball consistency.

Much to learn for my second run

that’s where your at now?
still moist?
what’s the temp and humidity where you have it?
i’ll try to help here though next time i can help from the start,.
looks like you kinda misunderstood what you were trying to do,.
really you should get those pieces as tiny as possible,.. but answer those first few questions,. i’ll be on and off here today but @dextr0 knows this stuff as well,. if you want to follow his advice,.

or even flip those pieces over till we got an idea for you to do

I think they are done. But to make sure I’d freeze for 12hr then sift onto parchment then put into fridge for another 8-12 hours and their done. He can press into hash or bag and press into rosin at that point.

@Gyow11 this is basically how I do but also the ghetto whacking agains counter too. Sifting really sticky hash is a mf. But if you keep it cold you’ll get it without oxidation (browning). The link below is my go to in understanding what needs to be done but I’ve got other unorthodox ways to make it happen too because I was having trouble myself.

exactly what i was thinking was freeze it,.
if it’s still a tad moist he could moisten it more, put the whole patty together than freeze for a day and than grate it inside the fridge freezer a bit at a time until done than air dry till pressing etc..

Ok this is what I think. And it goes against most hash makers that follow people like Frenchy (who I love respect and learned a lot from).

The pushing my hash into a patty is counterproductive for me. I like small chunks to go into my sifter so it goes through faster and I do not have to refreeze as often because my puck (patty) is so big I only get through parts of it before it heats up enough to stick together. Sometimes it sticks together so much you won’t ever get it apart. I’m looking for small chunks so they go through the sifting process fast.

Also air drying to me is a no no. I put my hash into the fridge as in the above video to keep it from oxidation. I prefer it that way because I feel it leaves more flavor when I go to smoke it. (Fridge is the drying process)

I’m definitely not going to add more water to any of it because I want it dry. Adding water would be going backwards in my opinion. Maybe I’m missing something though.

This is what my sifted heads look like when worked and dried in fridge.

I did keep one piece of cardboard in the wine fridge to see the difference. That is the last pic. Other two cardboard pieces and parchment paper have been at 70 degrees about 50% humidity on my kitchen table.

I had seen videos of people using freeze dryer and thought I would be ok leaving it sit in a glob like that… when I did try to sift through a sieve it felt like it just gunked up and I was loosing a ton of product, so I left it in puddles…

You’re saying I should collect everything and clump it together for the first freeze? And then grate it from that point and leave it in a fridge to dry?

When would you add more water? I agree it feels counter productive. So this picture is washed in ice water, frozen in a puck, and grated to dry?

I wouldn’t add more water to mine ever I don’t think.

The picture is washed in ice water, frozen on parchment as it lays when I pulled from bags (I try to spread thin as I pull), whacked on counter (I want small pieces so it sifts fast and does not clump as bad) as I said a few times (refreezeing as needed, and repeated if necessary), then sifted to dry in fridge.

In the pic it’s dried and ready to press into hash or bag and press into rosin, which I did do there afterwards.

The fix members gave here (freeze the puck, grate it fine, dry it cold) is now written up step by step in our full bubble hash guide, along with how to tell when the hash is dry enough to press.
