Looks genetic. Could kick up the nitrogen and see if it goes away. Most likely it'll grow just fine with it.

I've only seen this on Cucumbers grown in flat bags (grow bags), some times the water would settle on one side of the bag more than the other side, as they're a pig to keep level, maybe the same as this, so maybe drainage, if you look on the net there are various examples, one plant sold for $4000, only a small thing in a pot.

Variegation is more commonly seen in inbred lines and crosses made from them. I grew land races and heirloom cultivars rarely if ever seeing it. Fast forward to the modern and I can't count the lines I've seen it surface in from the OG Kush to Chemdog D, Blueberry and even recently on some old-school super silver Haze as well.
