Hello all, have been lurking around this site and dreaming of starting a garden for about 6 months now, well finally saved enough and gathered enough supplies together and am starting construction on my new growing space. This will be my first grow and really need advice on how to set everything up. I am very handy, so electrical, plumbing, and carpentry are no problem, so let me tell you what I am working with......
Climate: am in the south, very hot summers, mild winters, and high humidity.
Room: 6 x 8 x 8, but can only utilize an "L" shape, meaning 4 x 8 and the small part of the "L" being 2.5' x 2.5', leaving me a lung room of 2' x 5.5', there is a washing machine in there and the entry door. Was going to split the room up to a 4 x 4 flower room and a 2.5' x 3' veg room, leaving the middle area for equipment. Am going to run a 4 site undercurrent system with 3" PVC for flower, would like to run a smaller UC system for veg also with 2" PVC.
Some equipment I already have is, all the plumbing and uniseals, 2 inline 1100 gph pumps, 1 550 gph inline pump, 1 950gph air pump, 3 300cfm squirrel cage blowers, I also have a chill water a/c system that one of the squirrel cages hooks up to, I think the coil is a 60gph for cooling the air. 1 8" inline duct fan, 1 6" inline duct fan, about 8 80cfm computer type fans, but bigger, about 4" x 4", 2 TDS testers that measure in ppm & ec, 2 ph pen testers. 1 6k window unit, 2 stainless steel 6-pass cold plates, a small refrigerator, an ozone generator for a 1200 square foot room.
The whole room, including the lung room, will be sealed. The roof lined with 4mil black plastic, reflectix, another layer of plastic, r-12 insulation, then 5/8" Sheetrock, the walls will be the same just without the reflectix. It will also have a 100amp subpanel.
Really all I need is the light and nutes, I have 5 3' flouro fixtures with 2 bulbs each for the veg room, i also have 2 175w MH lights, was thinking about buying a 1000w hps air cooled hood for flower room.
So this is how I envision it...
Flower room: sealed 4 x 4 area, 1000w hps, pulling air thru carbon filter attached to hood, over bulb, using the squirrel cage attached to chill water a/c unit mounted in the lung room, hot air travels over chilled coils and back into flower room, I figure this would also help add humidity. Was going to put window unit outside flower room and use the small fans hooked up to a themostat inside flower room to pull in air conditioned air ( thru light baffles ) if needing additional cooling. So how am I doing so far? Any input would be greatly appreciated, would like to build it right the first time, so am reaching out to all the pro growers for room setup advice. Thanks.

Sounds like you have it planned pretty well. Give it a dry run once you get your hps and monitor environment for 48 hours or so before you bring life in. The air cooled light and a/c unit and chilling should be plenty but you never know, a 4x4 with 1k is tight quarters and could get hot. Good luck and good vibes keep us updated

Some more info, am going to be running a DIY 4 site UC system, was wondering what size totes to get, the res will be outside the flower room. Am going to use the small refrigerator as a chiller, with the 550gph pump pumping cold water to the chill water a/c coils and also to the 6-pass stainless steel cold plates that will be inside the res. All the totes or buckets will be off the concrete and insulated along with all the PVC. I hope the things I'm thinking about doing are going to work, so any advice is welcome.

Thanks sensi, need all the good vibes I can get. Does anyone also have any advice on a good strain that a first timer would have good luck with? Was thinking about a scrog at first, but then read clockworx thread on "mainlining" and thought that it was so neat on the way he trained his plants, so was really thinking about doing it that way. But need a strain tolerable to that type of training, also wanted to get femanized seeds so I don't have to recognize male plants.

So anyone think i should go with a 600w with a light mover instead of a 1000w in a 4 x 4 space? For the heat issues?

I think a mover would be ok in that space with a 600. It would definitely eliminate any hot spots but you may lose a little headroom, 6-10 inches but youd be able to keep the plants within a few inches of your light i know with a 1k on a mover i did a 7x7 sog. and was able to keep the bulb within about 10-12 inches of the plants without any burning.

did you already build your uc system?? snap a few pics so we can see your handywork
