New Strain Hype but just Hype

Why is there so much hype about new strains and how bitchen they are when they are all really just hype. A couple of examples come to mind.
Take Oreoz for example. I think I got that strain in Nov of 2021. It sucked produced like crap sure it looked good but not where near the hype. Right now I am have another new strain I have had for about a year Tropicana Cherry or Trop Cherry for short. Same thing as Oreoz. Just another novelty strain, but this one is red so more novelty.
Why is it all about the hype and not the high?

Because stoners are like everyone else and can get sucked into hype.

Really, I can only go by personal recommendations or occasionally taking a shot in the dark when it comes to genetics.

That's how I feel about GSC. Everyone says how amazing it is... I grew one and have smoked several others that came from Cali. It's just meh to me. The look is decent, taste is meh, buzz is fine. Nothing spectacular and now there's like 5000 strains decended from it because, well hype I guess. I don't care if it looks like it got rolled in diamonds or the ghost of Jimi Hendrix touched it and made it bright purple, if it doesn't taste amazing and have great effects, who cares? I think breeding got out of control so fast, everything is gonna taste and look the same eventually. Thankfully there's some folks out there that try to preserve genetics that deserve to be saved.

Your right Its hype with pretty photos! There are 27,375 individual strains on SeedfinderEU that all come from 3 basic cannabis strains. Those genetic differences mostly originate from the original climate plant-growing location where the plant originated from. When a Super Kush is bred into a line of cannabis it's just Super Kush into different strains. You can do what you want, and say what you say, but it is all just Kush in different strains. Sure their different cannabinoid ratios but it is basically the Kush that people are attracted to. I keep it simple as I can.

Speaking of hype, by the time everyone finds out it's all hype the seller has made plenty of money and has to change the old hype to new hype. I don't believe 89% of the bull shit about anything that has to do with cannabis on the cannabis market. If you want to get lied to or tricked, just chase after the amazing products that promise to do amazing things for a price. The good growing principles from simple products that were around 20 years ago and are still standing today are the go-to systems the pro uses today.

Because everyone keeps contributing to the hype?
Oreoz don’t even smell or taste like chocolate. and is why I only grew it once.
I think the cooperate chad’s will be falling out here in the next 3-5 years then things will start to get back to normal especially prices.
And also everyone grows with Athena, frosty on the outside nothing but plant material on the inside.

It got real bad once the packaging was more important than the product.
I visited a friend who owns dispensary’s here in Colorado, brought some gear and he bough $800 worth of seeds after he saw what I brought him.
He hands me a few grams of some rosin packed in pretty boxes and cool little jars. after 1 day of my wife dabbing them she’s like these arent getting me very high and are also giving me a headache! but I’m like those are Colorado approved safe for everyone. Yesterday I had to press out some weed for her.
This problem isn’t just cannabis it’s in everything. Packaging hype and which ever of your favorite celebrities promoting this month is your go to fam!
It’s like do you buy an 1:8 from your friend for 25 or do you buy an 1/8 for $60 from the shop with a snoop dog stamp on it?
I have people who will buy moon boots

Im tired of all this hype myself, its getting to be absurd. All these fufu crosses that taste and smell like musty socks, incense, or fucken cloves.

I feel all the good flavonoids have been bred out with the quest to find "30%" thc strains.

I find a nice balanced hybrid even at 12-15% gets me stupid stoned most times and these "30%" strains just give me a headache, taste like shit, leave a nasty after taste, and smoke harsh as hell. This was the main reason i started growing my own, i couldnt get my hands on a bag i enjoyed for months until i started growing my own.

I would be more than happy to see the trend toward reefer that supposedly smells like baked goods, that started with GSC, end.

Now that I wrote that, I suddenly realized I have a few plants that are a Biscotti cross in my grow, right now. I'm part of the problem!

I'm smoking Gsc, I bought 3 lose supposedly Gsc from a local hydro store. I grew 1 out and fking Wow...Nice big bud thick hard sweet tasting fruit. I'd been running Bubble Bomb as a permanent fixture in my stash and then I grew this Gsc...fk the BB hello Gsc...and now yous telling me you don't like my Gsc.......well my friend thems fighten words......lol.......I feels like grabbin yous by the neck and makin you puff my weed until you say uncle...... fkin punk kids dissen my weed

I personally have nothing against GSC and the like, it's just not for me.

When I do a hit of weed that's new to me, if my racing heart can be heard in the next county, it's a winner. I realize most people aren't looking for that.

I was saying that a few years back...all this bubble gum and fruitloops stuff before I'd heard of Gsc I didn't even know what Gsc was....I've no idea if I'm growing Gsc or fruitloops/bubble gum/lollypops

It's just a made up name and the Gsc I could buy at the dispensaries sure as heck wouldn't be mine or even look like it....Its all lost in the mumble jumble of a genetic's disaster.
