The same shit happens with nutrients.
Most of the industry commercialized after Colorado and California rec legalized. A LOT of NY wall street types jumped in trying to cash in on the "Green Gold". That brought a lot of marketing attention to the industry and we have what we have now. I know this from personal experience as I had a rolodex full of east coast contacts ready to jump into a venture I may present to them.
It doesn't bother me too much as I stick to older cultivars but it seems most breeders ascribe to making flower LOOK better than actually PERFORMING better.
