A buddy of mine who has been doing his thing outside for a few years and does really well tells me that I should top dress and then feed plain water for 60 % of your feed then the last 40 % is full strength nutes. He says this saves him money instead of spending 200 bucks on 5 gallons of nutes for one feed. I was just wondering if anyone else is using this method or has heard of it. I currently top dress and use act then next feed is top dress with the full strength nutes. But its costing me alot to do a thousand gallon mix at full strength. Btw he also alternates and uses act. Any input on this is much appreciated.

top dressing and side dressing

these techniques have been used by home gardeners for centuries. i would recommend using them too. if your soil is active and alive the, ACT will only enhance what you have going on in there. topdressing will add a little bit of "slow release" food for the soil.

and if this technique "works" for your buddy with great success, then,
"imitation is the sincerest form of flattery".
