I don't have a ppm meter maybe i should have it checked i have well water if I use ro system does it take that out of the equation? I have never check ppm of ro or straight well water. But some of my plants are locked up bad. My ph was to high in my soil which i fixed way to late i use tlo from buildasoil.com but my ph was at 8 so i started PHing my water down to 5.5 or 6 and got it back to 6.5 in the soil this week after flushing with 5.5. Not sure if they will recover so far along.
If growing in soil you really should have a digital ph tester and ph and tds adjusting and testing materials. Improper ph can cause a lot of problems. At least test and adjust your water ph. The soil ph tester isnt as important because when growing in soil your soil ph will be whatever your water ph is. Keep your water/nutrient at proper ph and your soil will be the same.
I'm growing in a newer style hydro soil modularhydro buckets I think ph down in my water to 5.5 is helping even though it's soil the plants seem to like ph of hydroponic seems to have helped just a few plants to far gone. I'll use the plants for edibles after they finish
