I'm 70 yrs old and live in South Central Alaska - I attempted my first grow in 1975 and haven't been out of weed since the early 1980s - I've found that user forums, whether for my car, my ebike or my chickens, are always the best places to get good information - The last few years I've been growing autoflowers in a 12x12 greenhouse - Up here, with the long hours of daylight in the summer, you have to cover photoperiod plants for 12 hrs a day to induce flowering - Which is a pain in the arse - Cover every night and uncover in the morning, daily - Autoflowers were made for Alaska - I've had some very nice autoflower crops but last year was rainy and cold and mold was a real problem - Well, we still seem to be in a rainy pattern this year so I'm looking to add a dehumidifier and maybe a heater to the greenhouse - Any suggestions on dehumidifiers would be greatly appreciated - Like I mentioned, my GH is 12x12 - Also, does anyone have any experience with Gnome Automatics - They look to have some really nicely developed strains - Thanks in advance and here's to happy growing

Hey Henry! Great to have you here. Growing in Alaska must have its challenges, but autoflowers seem like the perfect fit for your long daylight hours. Adding a dehumidifier and heater to your greenhouse sounds like a smart move for tackling the rainy weather. As for dehumidifier suggestions, brands like Frigidaire and hOmeLabs are worth checking out. As for Gnome Automatics, they've got some interesting strains, but I haven't personally tried them

Howdy, and welcome to the Farm!

How do you like Alaska? Are you more "off the grid" or located in a town? I've always wanted to move to Alaska. I moved to Colorado almost 20 years ago and fell in love with the mountains, building an "off the grid" ranch and living that lifestyle. My final goal has always been to have an OTG ranch either in Wyoming or Alaska. The further away from cities and towns, the better. I currently live 50 miles from the nearest convenience, so it would have to be at least that far out for my comfort.

I always wondered about the light schedule up there. What about in winter months where it's mostly dark, do photoperiods do well in that case? (if you can keep them warm enough?)

I'm definitely intrigued and jealous! Any "tips" for achieving a goal like mine? Ideally, I would love to own at least 100 acres as far away from society as possible, preferably with a water source such as a river or small stream. I hear land is still rather inexpensive (compared to the rest of the US) and easy to find up there, is that true?

One of these days I'll start moving in that direction. Our ranch here in CO has already more than doubled in value since we bought it, so it's accomplished what we set out to do - to be a stepping stone to our final destination.

At any rate, those are some fine lookin' cannabis plants ya got there! Keep up the good work, sir!

Apologies for taking so long to reply - Wacky times - I'm about 20 miles out of Homer and about 200 miles south of Anchorage on the Kenai Peninsula - When I moved here, 43 years ago, there was a mud road in here and hardly any people - For the first 16 years I had no electric grid or telephone - It was wonderful - I have five acres here - At the winter solstice, the sun here comes up at 10 am and sets at 4 pm - It stays so low in the sky that you can't feel any heat coming off of it - Much better than farther north - I grew my weed with a 10 kw diesel generator, wood heat and packed in water - It was a workout but wasn't hard when I was that young - If you're young come on up here - You'd probably love it - The population around here has tripled or so I'd guess - But you can still get as far away from civilization as you'd like - Most of the folks I've seen leave, and there have been lots, were because the Wife didn't like being so far from family - I'd suggest a visit up here before making your final decision, obviously - Thanks for your reply and I hope you're having a wonderful day
