Unfiltered well water, ph 7.3. Hard with build up of lime or calcium. Don't care. I'm not using a watering can of ph adjusted water every watering. Straight out of the hose, even when I feed. Wahh Wah but the plants might suffer uptake. LOL

This what I consider amending the soil. Existing soil is organic and contains organic nutrients, but, it has to be ammended.

Soil watered in each container, at a rate of 4 gallons adjusted as follows.

08 tbls (120 ml) Big Bloom

04 tsp (20 ml) Cal-mag

08 tbls (120 ml) Epsom Salt

1/2 tsp (2.5 ml) Nitrogen

1/2 tsp (2.5 ml) Phosphorous

1/4 tsp (1.25 ml) Potassium

Starts moved to grow area.
That’s what I do! Straight well, Water! But I lucked out with the pH! Right around 6.8 at least two years ago when I checked it! And an EC of .3! 150 ppm! Couldn’t ask for closer! When I fuck them up, I can’t blame the water! And I don’t feed! Terrible cook!😁✌️ and I think you ought to listen to your wife more often! I think she’s been sneaking around doing some research! I’m with her 100%!😂🍻 and I hope she picked Ocean Forest! And told you to throw in extra perlite! Lol! Good luck!

I hate perlite, all that annoying white stuff coming to the surface. Same soil, Kellogg Raised Bed and Potting Soil (organic plus). 9 bucks, 2 cu ft Home Depot. There is enough forest products in it to keep it loose and moist. Not paying twenty bucks a bag for Ocean Forest. I only check ph of water going in. Rarely check runoff. Know absolutely nothing about. EC or ppm. More or less only react to what my eyes see.

She is interested in switching from Foxfarm to NPK Industries RAW products. Real spendy but they offer a full line of fertilizer that you mix, and a feeding schedule.

I hear you! A lot of people don’t like it because of that reason! But at 22 bucks for 4 ft.³ it’s cheap and it works for me! And my soil is four year old OF going on five and it tends to break down a little And I lean towards over aerating! It’s hot here, so my soil has to act like a swamp cooler! And my pot don’t have to win in any beauty contests! Never pH! Never feed! Just throw it together every year and plunge headfirst into the abyss!😂 OF is 16 bucks a bag here! Have close to 300 gallons of it! But when you amortize the cost over four or five years, it winds up being about three or four bucks a bag!

Thanks! My quandary over NPK RAW was bag size. After investigating, 2 oz bags should equal 33-6 plant grows (2 per year = 16 years) If that is true and it works well, I'm good for a lifetime.

The majority of reviews from experienced growers were positive. Guess I'm trying to sell myself on the switch.

All you can do is give it a whirl! Outdoors is usually pretty forgiving! Indoors is another story!

OK so my style is top for four leads and let'em
grow. Always has been. I am a connoisseur of weed, not a connoisseur grower and am happy with the outcome.

What's your thoughts on defoliation?

I don’t do any defoliating till well into flower when the plant starts telling me that it is finished with the shade leaves! But you are in a more humid climate! So you probably have to play that one by ear! Mold and mildew is not a worry here!

And I bend my plants at a 45 or more so they get a different exposure than if they were grown like a Christmas tree!

Might have already caught a glimpse of whitefly. Inevitable, along with moths then budworms. Silca might be the answer to the worms. A vinegar solution or neem for the flies.

NPK RAW on the way. 2 years Foxfarm vs RAW 16 years = $60 more. Company is out of Medford Oregon.

Garden about 15 hours daylight, PAR 1800, DLI 90 LOL 😆 BIG TIME. Rain/wind just fine. Still 39F overnight and into 80s day. Secondary branches peeking out, even on the cotyledon blade. All up to Mother Earth and Father Sky.

Correction a year and a half w/2oz bags of RAW. Sixty bucks more than FF, except the whole enchilada 😋 in the mix.

The company does a good job of explaining amending pre-planting soil.

6/9/2025 (31 days) - Cotyledon still Happy! Secondary ready. Roots starting reach into the 15-gallon soil. Soon, transplant into the fifteen. One more soil prep, humic acid and root microbes. Nights 50°F + - Days 80°F +. Got a little droopy yesterday from heat.

One Spirit Leaves

Another Spirit Arrives

Yana (yunkee) 13 years old, 0ur sixth shepherd. She told the wife it was time. Medication could no longer let her hips function. We have been through it before. German Shepherds hips go about 10 years. Before she could no longer get up we put her down. SAD! Cried like a baby and waited for her spirit to leave. It didn't leave, it still exists here. A part of her is in my medicine pouch. That's her anxious pacifier. She always did this when upset. She was a wonderful watchdog and knew how to stop you in your tracks and hold you at bay. Fawn killer, ground squirrel tracker. Untrained natural service dog. Always knew how to ground me when my rage gets out of control. You will always be in my heart.

Ember - 14 weeks now. You only have to show her once. Now she is trying to figure out how to open doors because she knows the knob opens it. One of the most happy and intelligent shepherds we've had. Pretty sure this is our last, and I hope I outlast her.

Man i'm deciding also if i top them or not. Like you were pretty short on the growing season we might get abit more time but who knows. My thoughts are if there healthy and growing quickly it should not slow them down with topping. I may do just 2 to find out my will be short anyway don't think i'll get them over 6ft if that.

Your grow season is a little longer than mine. If I make it to October I'll be good. I'd like to add a clear roof before the cold. If that happens I might stretch past Halloween 🎃

I figure if you top you get more colas and laterals off them vs no top and large arms. Although I have topped and they went to 14' up here, generally I top for 4 leads and they go to 7 ft. Maybe topped and 7ft is the better way to go.
