Northern Lights - Spring 2026 Indoor

Next Indoor run will be Northern Lights. I was excited to receive these seeds from Homegrown Cannabis for a number of reasons - First, this is one of the first strains I ever grew. Back in the mid/late 90s when it was still sketchy buying seeds...

Week 13 - Harvest

Oldest is now 24 days, all 3 settled into their 3g pots - seeing some good growth all around. Oldest is still sort of compact but stretching a little, It'll be another interesting comparison if I leave this one intact instead of LSTing it. Ended...

Progress check, I know I said weekend harvest but Im getting a little concerned.
Scoped around the plant today, and despite all the remaining white pistils - a large amount of the Trichs are going amber, especially at the top.

One source says that Northern Lights just retains a lot of white up to harvest but....Others say that's not true...lol

Still feeling very green but the Trichs don't lie I guess...Ill see tomorrow. Ill try to get some good pics before I chop her.

After drying out the pot and giving her 15 hrs darkness, pulled the trigger this morning - gave her a wet trim and cut her down.
Got her hanging in the tent with the light off - Not perfect conditions but the best I can do. The tent is 55%ish humidity and slightly cooler than the house, also the temps outside are dropping everyday so should be ok. I shoot for the 6-7 day dry but usually finish a little early, 5-6 days for bigger buds - not sure how long that monster cola will take.

Not sure how much difference any of the later efforts make (Dark period before harvest, cutting feeds in the last weeks, flushing or drying the soil)
But old habits die hard...

Anyway, pretty happy with how this one turned out. Smells amazing and looks great, even with the resurgence of white pistils toward the end - which are probably the result of heat stress from the cola hitting the light in the last weeks, gave her a little kid-n-play flat top and probably stressed her out a bit but didn't really burn much.

Pretty good amount despite the number of useless lower branches that never made it out from under the canopy.

The top cola is insane, a few ounces wet by itself (I don't have a scale but...) Probably take weeks to dry out but doesn't look rotten, from what I can see.

So thats the end of Indoor grow. Ill need to do some kind of crazy deep cleaning and change the filter or something before I can start anymore - mites are hiding somewhere in the one tent, idk.
But, I do have the one last plant outside from this batch - So I won't end this thread just yet...Until I can see how she turns out. So far she takes after the other lanky plant but we'll see.

Hi that centre cola is impressive, well done on a nice grow.
My NL won't have one, I topped it, been on 12/12 about a week or so. Now 50cm and BK 40cm.
Regretting not using a 7 gallon bag for the NL, instead of the 3 gallon pot. Changing it now might mess things up.
Giving them plain water in the week and a feed of miracle grow at the weekends. As soon as buds start to show will switch to potassium granules at weekends. Nitrogen and phosphate will no longer be needed, they're for foliage, stems and roots.
Have you smoked NL before?

Nice...
Haven't grown NL in many years(20+) - so Im not sure how this will compare - or even how it is supposed to be.
I have used up to 5 gallon pots in my tents before, but because of my limited space I usually run 3 gallons. Feels like 7 gallons would be something of a waste for my small space and only make it tougher for me to keep the plants off the lights.

Interested to see how it turns out for you. Wont be able to smoke this for awhile, 1+ week drying and 4 weeks curing - but it smells amazing.

I have 9 more NL seeds to start at some point, maybe Ill run them outside - hopefully they look a lot like this one.

Also, before I forget again - Thanks to again to @homegrowncannabisco for hooking me up with these seeds, this plant was just what I was looking for and a nice change of pace from the strains Ive been working with for awhile now.

Very nice.👍

I'm growing one outdoors. First time growing NL ( Zamnesia seed ) so I was curious to what your bud structure looked like, and what might be expected.. hopefully.
She's a monster of a plant for only 4 main limbs (topped and LST) approx 10'

Wow, she's a beast! Structurally it looks a bit more like the other 2 plants from my last batch - but it is outside in the ground, so who knows how that might affect the form.

I do still have one in a 3g outside myself but it was a runt from the start, so maybe not the best example.

Id love to run some of these outdoors in the ground but my space is extremely limited, but maybe Ill get to try a few in big pots on the porch next season.

Ill admit - the branch that I pollenated was on the smaller side, so it was (I won't say "dry") but enough to render for the seeds. And I was curious to crack open a bud and see/smell what's up so far.
Still, very encouraging, super stinky - kinda Piney, skunky, spicy, little turpentine/gas flavor...I also have a cold right now, so I could be missing things. Im glad I pollenated her at least, even though I wasn't able to grab clones.
But...

Somehow I only ended up with seven seeds.

Ive never thought there was any real trick to pollenating, its usually like 50 seeds without effort. And Ive used the same pollen on another plant that looks to be producing dozens at least (so probably a lot more) - so I don't think its the pollen.
Something about the mother maybe? Or my application (that's what I get for being super careful)
I guess I don't need that many anyway...

But, another project for the seed bank. Get in line...

Drying went about as expected. Maybe a little quick but my vent fan only has the one speed and its what pushes the air through carbon filter (which is absolutely necessary)

With the rest of the smaller branches rendered yesterday, I broke down the big cola this morning - been curious about what was goin on in there for awhile.
And it wasn't too bad, only one small section of rot at the bottom center.

Otherwise...Nice, uniform and relatively dense nugs, kept its flavor well. Not a bad amount for one plant, got it jarred up with the 60% packs.

Meanwhile...Outside.

The last NL, originally stunted and a little funky...Is looking pretty normal, about 4 feet and filling out well.
Not sure how many weeks left in the season, I gambled on the early spring start and was wrong about that so...who knows what'll happen with fall.
But (probably) like 8 weeks left right? Somehow I doubt we'll be growing into November this year but like I said, who knows.

My 2 plants under the stairs looking good, touching 3ft. No smell yet. The NL was topped, the BK natural. These pics 5 days old. Sprinkled some potassium granules on the soil. They are starting to drink. Hoping for a good harvest.
