For sure will use this trick next year and also will be thinking ahead more never thought she would get that big that fast like I said before I usually learn the hard way but this has really opened my eyes to how much work goes into trying to get really good weed
if you dont have height limits and can plant far enough away from one another where they dont excessively shade each other next time, the safer option is to just not top and train your plants.. Everywhere ive lived ive just had the concern of height. I wasnt going to this year because i had 10-12 feet to work with, but im glad i did in the end tbh. My plants would be a total mess if i hadnt used the tomato cages though. Id have several splits/breaks already if i hadnt used em. Next year tbh, ill probably be throwing my seedlings out a little later in the season. Some are getting so big im expecting damage here and there even with the cages and side trellising.

If you side trellis your plant btw, you wont have to worry about breaks at all with one that size for the most part. And in the next couple weeks is the perfect time to put them up. Will support all the sketchiest branches right from the base of the colas and you can layer them up evenly where you want them to sit by hand. I just use 4 fence posts and some 4 or 6 inch square trellis netting. Can get it pretty cheaply in whatever sizes you would need on amazon or ebay. Or just about any ace hardware, true value, or grow store. Rural king, if you have those, sells steel posts up to 6.5ft tall for like $5. I think i payed like $8 each shipped for the 5ftx30ft, 6 inch quare trellis nettings i ordered. (if you go that route, heads up, you want the posts set firmly as possible, and the netting pretty tight. Tighter then you would think necessary. Def use steel fence posts and be aware of which faces you put inward/outward. Their chain link nubs will hold the net well without ties as long as theyre facing outward. Re setting a fence post sucks.)

I had two plants topped early, by baby rabbits. It’s the worst to have double stems that low in windy areas. Rabbits liked it, I didn’t.

You can solve that issue very cheap and easily as well lol.

Grab a roll of 1/4 inch square chick wire (made to be small enough for baby chicks to walk on)

Cut rectangles as long as you need and wire tie them in a hoop around tiny or young plants. If you make your cuts in the center of the squares you can also leave them facing upward. They can bite you a bit, but that keep deer from eating them. It pokes their chin.

Hold them down with landscape fabric pins.

Field mice wont even mess with em in a 1/4" chick wire hoop unless there's just no other vegetation around to eat. Dirt cheap, highly effective, and reusable.

I use em til long after the plants out grow them too. Sometimes ive just left em on all season if there was enough critter activity that year.

Depending on your grow medium, If the majority of your grow medium is Bagged compost potting soil or even soil modifiers some growers overlook the fact that Topsoil is 50% silica. and if it's not in their grow medium.
Silica makes your plants strong. Its is a noticeable from using it to not.
Two kinds of silica, crystalline (mineral ) and organic from rice hulls .
The organic silica adsorbs allot faster. I use Silica gold.
I would mix and treat each plant one at a time because it is a little gritty.
Nice job putting your plant back together , I normally use string or yarn and lash the plant back together.
But what ever works ,,,,,is what important as long as you save the plant ... bravo...

My garden is fenced, deer galore. Using weed whacker ripped a few small holes. Rabbits take a running leap through the hole, can’t even see the hole. All good!

Had a severe weather warning for gusts up to 65mhp. Went out and filmed my plants doubling over. All is gravy. I am growing in mineral rich mountain flood plane loam though too. No shortage of minerals and silica for sure.

This prob still would have left me with broken branches without those inverted tomato cages though.

Gets super gnarly about 15 seconds in lol.

Your prob gonna find a way to keep those plants from falling over if it gets windy. You got big sails coming out of those pots lol.

Those are gonna get a lot bigger and heavier by harvest if you keep em happy and healthy too

I am so surprised, and shocked, and impressed!!!! By not only nature but by the success of your fix, it doesn't look like she is bothered AT ALL. If your plant was going to die from the split I think she would have announced it by now, but I see nothing, not even a droop. So unless something else happens, I have a feeling your fix may have worked in keeping her together. I would love it if you continued showing us how she heals over time 😍 😍 .

Be careful with zip ties over a long period though. If you see the zip ties cutting into the stem let us know. This was absolutely an emergency and I would have used zip ties too just to be clear, I would not have trusted just tape with this outdoors split either, I would have used zip ties too! But now that you have used them its your job to keep an eye on the zip ties to make sure they are cutting into your stems over the weeks and months 😁 .

Real impressive bounce back man.

So this is today after a lot of rain and wind .shes looking great almost like it never happened is it to early to get happy ?????
Looks good to me! I've seen plants go through some rough times, it's amazing how they can bounce back from something like that with a little help! I think it has a good chance, just make sure to take steps to prevent it from any further damage.

Looks like you fixed it up pretty good, it's held together better then my neighbors car 🤣

That how she’s looking today tomorrow she’s getting lots of help lots to do but just wanted to say thank you to everyone with the help and advice you all rock I love this shit

I am so happy to see her thriving. It didn't look like she even noticed, you got her back together like a pro. I am excited for the future of this thread 😍 you did GOOD!
