OK, so I am trying to maximize my little remaining funds the best that I can.

I am wondering if buying a bigger CFM for the filter would make a difference?

Anotherwords, if I buy the Max-Fan 12in | High Volume Energy Efficient Inline Fan | 1708CFM with the Phresh Filter 12in x 48in 2200CFM will that matter?

The other filter choice would be the Phresh Filters 12in x 39in 1700CFM (which matches up closer per the rated CFM).

Is it worth it to buy the little bigger filter? Will it make any kind of difference?
Or is the 1708CFM rating of the fan the absolute max that it produces?

I always use filters with higher cfm than the fan. Filtering is a function of contact time between the air and the carbon. Too much flow and the air moves by faster than the smell can be removed. Slower doesn't have any negative effects that I'm aware of, within reason.

Also, it's worth knowing that filters are rated differently for recirculating use and exhausting use. When exhausting, the air only gets one pass through the filter and so the filter's rated cfm is lower than it is for recirculating use. It's not always clear which rating is being given, though some brands do list both.
