Heads up on watering the 4" (or larger) cubes/loose filled pots... they do not wet/hold water in a traditional manner... very bottom heavy on volume of fluids + does not wick at all... tops bone dry/bottoms very wet. Just a warning.

BTW, agree w the shop guys in that the starter cubes are the bomb for striking cuts.

Looking good. Hope to see more! Peace.

GroHi - your talking about the STG here? good looking out...

even though they stay more wet at the bottom do you think they are better for taking cuts then rockwool?

Yeah... imho... luv them

I had issues w water borne pathogens w striking in RW + RR + RRiot... they basically stayed too wet for me. BUT, this was before I started using Roots Excel... haven't done a comparison lately as once I found the STG (tried them w they very first came out) I never looked back.

I'm odd though... actually take the little cubes, rip off the finer felt material up top (holds too much water & the roots don't grow in it), then rotate the cube sideways. If you notice, the threads of the STG are kinda horizontally oriented out of the pack... I liken it to how you can the vertical/horizontal Grodan. When I rotate them, the fibers run up&down so I get immediate & rapid draining... no real massive moisture block at the bottoms. This allows for me to water x1 per 24 hours to even 48hrs during week 1. Once roots form, it needs to be done every 16-20hrs or they'll dry up.

I've always been looking for a very airy, very fast draining, capable of daily stem watering medium for striking cuts. Nothing out there quite like the STG, imo. Used to go w a heavy perlite w light vermiculite mix to accomplish the same thing... what a pain in the ass.

Here's what I get...
