And be "Allowed" to make our own choice/decision. The "Option" to opt out so to speak from something one chooses not to be part of... No harm, no tax, no penalty, no foul. End of the great debate! I don't like Dr's/med profession, hate hospitals and everything that goes along with them and will Tattoo "Do not Resusitate" over my heart and check the box on the back of my license that gives that option if it was offered... Against medical advice. I don't want your medical advice. Where is my right to be left alone? (And not have to pay for that?)

On A positive note... I see healthy homeless people on the horizon... Dr's could care less now but in A couple of years... "We" care for "You"! The motivation to care? $$$$ from the tax payers pocket directly to the dr's. wallet. No compassion there. The revolving door has been opened. No housing, job or program that helps that homeless person better his / her posisition but they sure do care about his or her health... Makes me go Hmmmmm...

This is what I never understood, not so much this statement but capitalists that are against social healthcare. I say this because I would think a company like Wal-Mart would have a lot to gain by having a healthy workforce, I would assume that productivity would rise extremely high and it could pan out to be a great investment for them. Yes people need jobs. Every time the President attempts to help the jobs issue he gets the ole socialist screams from the right. In California the stimulus money that was granted to six other states but rejected by their governors is now going to help build the first west coast high speed rail, eventually connecting sacramento with L.A.......Now this creates jobs! Holy shit people will be flocking to get on the building of the rail, my dad retired from the rail road and it is one of the last good jobs out there for the working man. This will help. As for the affordable care act, well I have been in the mmj industry long enough to be able to give hundreds upon hundreds of horrible stories from patients and my own life so I am stoked that this act starts to address the power of insurance companies and their poor business tactics.

They already use emergency rooms and the cost is passed onto the hospital then paid back by the state which comes from tax payers....Your ignoring so many factors with this post its not even funny. The issue comes when people either cant get health insurance because of how many hours they work, preexisting conditions, or being jobless. When they get sick they go to a emergency room which costs on average double what you would pay with insurance, so charge the poor more for worse care. Also you cant use any private hospitals. The out of pocket costs for just two of the biggest public hospitals in my area is over $1,000,000,000 and growing in just the past 12 months alone. All from people who used the emergency room and couldnt pay. Its cheaper to allow people access to healthcare then too just send people to the emergency room once they're already suffering from an issue.

you know there really is no reason why emergency rooms should cost that much. It's not like the staff isn't there anyways! The problem is that hospitals are charging whatever the hell they want. These charges need to be regulated imo. Just look at the average pay for doctors with less than 5 years residency. It sucks! And who the hell can work 18 hour days??? The hours doctors work needs to be addressed as well. There is just too much fat in hospitals. We should start there.

Real eye opener, fits my view of history to the T, We are taught the plight of the Israelites in school but hear nothing of the Palestinian plight via. media... at least that was my case. What the F?... We are responsible to educate our selves, that's all there is to it. Carter mentions A few times, "I'm not talking about ancient history, I'm talking about Now"... My view of history...
I know it's A driver of peoples emotions but, it's in the past and set in stone. We are living "Now" and have the ability in hand to change tomorrow... Why spend so much energy dwelling on the past???

Something which I think you've overlooked is that the entire cost is not paid down by the taxpayers when unpaid visits to the ER are made--another way the costs are made up is by charging paying customers more and having the insurance companies foot the bill.

This was part of the vicious cycle that Obamacare was initially going to attempt to interrupt entirely with a government insurance option--they've gone forward without that option, which I think was a mistake, but it will still curb increases in premiums over time (as compared with what the growth rate was predicted to be).

The cycle was as follows:

1. Insurance premiums are too high (or I'm too lazy to/I don't care to buy insurance).

2. I get sick and go to the ER without insurance

3. I don't pay my bill.

4. Government subsidy pays part of this back (about 50% as i understand it), the rest is baked into new costs for treatment at the hospital (alongside increases to salaries, new equipment, etc)

5. You have insurance.

6. You get sick and go to the ER, but your costs have gone up because of my failure to pay (over time, obviously).

7. Your insurance pays the higher costs, but your premiums are steadily creeping up as well.

8. Insurance premiums are too high.

9. I get sick.....

As with any big policy change, the initial shock will be the worst of it--and over time the system will adjust. You'll probably see hospital prices go up considerably, as well as insurance premiums--and within a year or two they'll be back where they were and they *should* start falling from there.

A huge part of that fall will come from the normalization of the risk pool for the insurance companies, probably less than a quarter of it will come from less unpaid bills at ERs--but the number should still be fairly significant.

Actually costs are high because Hospitals and Insurance Companies are Greedy. We spend unlimited amounts on our health business but get back barely anything.

Insurance uses the "Uninsured" as an excuse to increase charges every year.
Hospitals use uninsured to distract people with insurance so they can over charge them through the anus.
Doctors don't care because they get paid to basically prescribe poison to everyone.
Nurse's don't care cause they want as much as they can get for doing almost nothing.
Pharmaceutical companies don't care because they have stopped any cures from treated the sick and get PAID at least double what the rest of the world pays for poisoning Americans.
And politicians don't care cause they are in bed with the Health Business of this Country.
