And do as much reading up as possible! If you turn your porch light on at night and the moths start swarming I think you can plan on going to war sooner or later! And don’t turn that light on if you have any plants near!😆 ambient light at night is your enemy! And they’re not the only things that will try and kill your plants! You’re in for a hell of a good time!🍻
Hahahaha yeah, a helluva good time! Just hope I have some beautiful buds to smoke when it's all over.

I’m gonna ramp up the challenge a bit. Maybe I should start a journal/thread like Chucky did about how bad and often I’m gonna f##k up!
I’ve only grown indoors in tents with pretty good success. I’m in Thailand now and want to try outdoors. Moths and a freekIng lot of creepy crawlers will be competing with me. Today it was about 100 Fahrenheit today, 85 at night. 60-70rh. I really feel like I’m on a mission to punish myself for an unknown reason. Average quality weed is abundant here, but I still enjoy the grow. Sun is amazing, but storms blow thru without warning with high winds and downpours I never saw in my old life(Chicago). Part of me wants to plant seedlings outside, blow them a kiss and wish them well. Maybe it might work with local strains, but probably not. I’d like to build a cheap greenhouse/shelter where the sun shines, but I really want to keep cost low and take advantage of Thailand’s tropical grow conditions. I’ll chirp in or start a thread when I start so I can entertain you with my miserable attempt.

Hell, yes! Start a thread! There were a couple of guys on here growing in Thailand! But they flew the coop! But if I remember right, they both had to use supplemental lighting to keep them in veg! I think one guy had kind of a long garden and had a big long string of lightbulbs strung out over it. And I think they had the usual problems with mold and pest. But that can happen anywhere! Can’t remember how they made out in the end! Growing that closer to the equator seems to require some special adaptations! But it’s interesting to watch that’s for sure! I still keep in touch with an old member via email who lives in red termite!😆 pretty wicked quake you had over there! He didn’t suffer any damage!

Looking into seedbanks right now. Seedsman and Seed Supreme. Are they both pretty dependable? I hope it's okay to ask a question on this thread unrelated to my original post? If not I'll ask in a new thread, if that's ok.

Seedsman has two of my all time favorite strains which I believe began in the LA area- Louis xiii and pinapple og. Just the way those strains hit me personally was kind of in a different league. King Louie (I hope that's the same as Louis xiii) is pretty easy to find down here in flower. Pineapple OG, originally from Wonderbrett I believe is impossible to find these days. For me, anyway. Thanks for all the help everyone.

I think you’re better off sticking to one thread! In the long run! Don’t know about the banks! Getting that ball rolling!🍻

Thanks Chucky. How risky is it to buy online? Not at all? Meaning, how likely is it that they get intercepted?

You don’t have to worry much nowadays about them getting intercepted! And if you buy from the United States, you don’t have to worry at all! I’ve bought from the UK and Greece! They took a while but they made it! Lol! Nobody really gives a shit about seeds anymore!

Ha, sounds about right. Someone recommended Bodhi, Humboldt CSI (was this the one you mentioned?) or was it the other one... Humboldt Seed Co. Also someone mentioned Ethos, I beleive.

Just curious though, why do you say not to worry if ordering from wihin the States? Is it because there's more scrutiny with overseas packages? I'm guessing that's it...

Ha, sorry, Chucky, I think that last one was a stupid question--even though you told me there was no such thing, right? Hahahaha I think I may have proved you wrong!!

The less borders you have to cross the better! But the only place I’ve seen have a problem with it is Australia! They seem to have a real hard on for seeds! And I have only used one! But there are a lot out there that are good! But anytime you are crossing an international border There is a slight chance they might get snagged! I think in the US, seeds are not technically illegal! They don’t meet the THC threshold that makes them illegal! But I could be wrong there! There’s plenty of good suppliers in the states! No reason to cross international boundaries!

will do--glad I found you chucky.

Ive found that insecticidal soap works better for soft bodied insects like caterpillars and aphids then neem does. neem concentrates are better then just raw neem oil. But neem concentrate is a good pest management practice as its also a natural fungicide, and usually mold problems are from bugs damaging the plant. Cages are great and will help more than hurt. I wouldn't pick up and handle the pots much, as your disturbing the roots. If it gets hotter then 90F during flower, a shade cloth will protect the buds and give you better quality outdoors.

Hi everyone, I'm so glad to have found this forum!

I'm planning a very small outdoor grow in SoCal. Maybe two plants, three max. I haven't done so in a few years because last time I did my flowers got partially eaten by what I believe were budworms. They looked so good before that! haha and to be honest it kind of broke my heart and it discouraged me from trying again.

Once I saw them, I sprayed my plants with neem oil (yes, I know that was way too late) and maybe that's why it didn't work, and truthfully, I hate the smell of that stuff.Where I am we have plenty of sunlight and very little rain but I'm in the city, so I only have a small backyard and with a few buildings blocking out different parts of my yard at different times of the day. But since I'm old and retired and home most of the day, I'm okay with picking up the cage and the plants and moving them to where the sunlight is, and doing it multiple times a day.

I'm looking for a way to get as much natural sunlight on them as possible while keeping moths or butterflies off. Is there anything lost, as far as sunlight and airflow, in using a cage?

Am I missing something a rookie like me would miss?

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.
I'm thinking of making a loop house using PVC and some 6mm UV protectant clear plastic from Farm Plastic Supply. I'll be fixing it so the sides roll up and installing two doors to allow good air circulation. This should keep the weather off of them and hopelly slow down the Cat's. Will start with BT early and alternate with Dr.Zymes.

IRAC 4 Year, 6mm Film that also protects against condensation build up inside.

My brother’s in Riverside and major caterpillar problems! He said blacking out the yard helps quite a bit! But he still got slaughtered! Lol! Just not as quite as bad!

In my experience, anything you put between the sun and the plant will affect the light to whatever extent! The plant will let you know! You might get away with covering it at sundown when the moths are most active and uncovered in the morning! It’s a crapshoot! Caterpillars are bad down there! And make sure you black out your yard as much as possible! No porch lights, pull the window, shades, etc.! Let your neighbor be the one to attract the Moths!✌️
So far, I've been fighting them off fairly successfully. Sprayed them with BT once or twice very early in Veg, and have been checking them closely for eggs every day. I found one that looked like a caterpillar to be, and like the eggs, got rid of it. However, I've been hit pretty hard with what I believe are aphids, but they're not nearly as bad as a full-on caterpillar attack would be. I did eventually buy the grow tents, and though the pest issues have decreased dramatically, I agree with your point that they would reduce sunlight intensity. I think they have but at this point that's not a dealbreaker for me 'cause the caterpillars could kill the entire grow.

I made two big mistakes early on. The first one, and I knew better, was I fed them in the direct sunlight. I checked them the next morning and they were all negatively affected. I actually lost a couple, but I think the ones that have survived are healthy now. The other mistake i made was, as I was doing an LST of "pinatti" (sp) I broke off two branches. I tried to mend with tape, and thought I did save one, but next day it was also gone. I should have mentioned upfront that these were clones, and as @defective said in this thread, that one went into flower a couple weeks ago.

I got spooked when I fed them in the light and almost blew it, so I've been very hesitant to add any nutrients at all. I have used miracle-gro grow big once or twice, and I ahve the FF trio but haven't used them yet. I've been checking this site any time I got stuck and this forum has already saved me more than once. Recently, I think it was last night (short term memory loss, ya know) I read on here and then elsewhere how important Calcium was, and so now I think I must buy some more nutes. Do you have any suggestions for the best commercial calcium supplement?

ETA: TPS, GH, etc? Thanks.

I don’t feed during the grow! Somebody will be able to recommend one to you! Cats aren’t that big of a problem till they happen when you’ve got buds! Then they are big trouble! Make sure you keep an eye on your plants if you are messing with their light! They can get stretchy and viney if you mess with it too much! If they do that, it affects their ability to bear bud weight later on!😁🐒

I mean, I have to move them to get as much sunlight on them as possible. I'm in the city, got bldgs around me that block my backyard. The very most sunlight I can get on them is about 10.5 hours.

eta; interesting you don't feed. Everyone seems so hig hahaha accidental pun on feeding throughout.
