Sorry to hijack your thread a bit buzzilla, but I too would recommend soil/coco for first run or if you wanna hydro it, get a 4'x4' tray, a reservoir and a pump & timer, essentially you could do ebb & flow for cheap and be hydro...

+1 the falls are always higher with hydro esp. when it's all
new to you
