Hey all,

since there is a lot of mini split discussion in here I figured it was appropriate, if not, please move it where ever :)

Paylessminisplit.com has ridiculous prices on mini splits. $960 for a 24k btu delivered. Wondered if anyone has any experience with them?

They offer wholesale as a direct importer and have blah blah blah best prices.

Now, whether the equipment is worthwhile or a giant paperweight I don't know.

Input appreciated.

Thanks

it has a 5-year warranty on the compressor and 1-year warranty on all other parts, seems pretty standard

Yep, they have other sizes too, all for good prices.

Really tempting, compared so a Mr. Slims pricetag.

Yeah, thats why I asked before I purchased.

I forget the proper term, but a lot of chinese factories run a "black" shift where they run the assembly line on the third shift when the factory is supposed to be closed. There are literally thousands of ford escorts all over china with a ______ brand. Same car, different tag, way different price.

Maybe thats the situation here.

Your AC is going to be the main component in a sealed room. It's not something you want to save a few bucks on.

Lastly, you want an AC with inverter technology. You will have better control over the cooling and also save money on power bills. Other ac units such as window units, portable units, or even central air, they are either on (running full power) or they are off.

Thanks for the tip. But if you've got $900 and not $3000 to spend, it doesn't look too bad.

My current wall/window unit doesn't have inverter tech, but it does have adjustable fan speed. Low setting allows it to stay on most of the time, so not "full power or off" as stated. Not sure if the air con has that option, as I've been too busy to look at much more than the price.

huge decision

Hi Guys
Your a/c unit is your most important/expensive decision you will make. Remember crew, this unit will not be going on and off cooling a home. This unit will be going "all in balls out" from 10 minutes after the lights turn on until 15 minutes after they turn off.

I highly reccomend buying a major brand name unit if you live anywhere that doesnt get icy cold and snow.
Friedrich's mini splits are made for running year round down to a maximum of -18f/0c . So far this winter mine have never shut down on me. Last year it happened twice.

If you don't have the money save until you do or you will b a very unhappy camper.

I am not sure if the states are like this or not but up here in canada you can call your cooling guy/store and have them installed and pay monthly. My friends are financed through there electric company.... 181.00 a month until paid off.

I think they look legit they have Toshiba compressors. A lot of companies that produce their own stuff use Toshiba parts. My HP laptop has a Toshiba hard drive in it. I think it may be worth trying out.

Hey julsbagell,

Thanks for your input. Was that an "Air Con" brand, or another off brand?

Also, hows it been running since you got the new fan?
