Peppercorn does have a point about the screen name.

You have a point about a pH/TDS meter. Pretty simple to use and even "Grampa" has that ....

Let's call it a draw and re-focus on the point of this thread ... to help the original poster ....

You're such a vag. Vag. In the future you may not want to tell first time growers that on one hand this is how you do it but on the other hand say you don't give a damn if they succeed or not. Nice. I'm sure because you have a BS that you got it right the first time.
Epic fail dude.

Damn, just got this "shit show of words", and had to catch my breath from laughing. I am a old timer, been a stoner since the early 70,s. I have learned a few things about growing reefer. 1) P.H. of the soil and water are two of the key 8 items in growing top shelf weed. 4 are items above ground, 4 below in the medium. The 9th is light, natural or man made, if any of the 8 items are fucked up or out of the desired range, it doesn't matter how much light is used, plants won,t grow. So like it was said, nutrients are absorbed at certain P.H. and keeping it between 6.8ph and 6.3ph has worked great for me. This range helps the plant absorb the different compounds. By giving it a "little" flexibility, you can get most of them. But too high or too low PH causes the plant too stress. I don,t claim to be the Weed Science Guy, but it's been growing in the wild for Millions of Years, that,s why we call it WEED. LOL

@sgtPeppercorn I've been a grower for 7 years in the legal industry and I have BS in Botany and Chemistry. I've also been a wholesale nursery manager for several years of my life. I frequently hit 25%-30% THC but what do I know? Just because I only have a few posts doesn't mean I don't know my shit. I've been lurking on this site for a while and only recently became active, but egos like yours make me not want to share the tricks I've learned. Go smoke a bowl and check your attitude friend. We're all here to help her and you are kind of being a dick to me for offering help. You might learn something if you drop your shields.

7.0 (neutral) is still too high. She said she was using RO water if I remember correctly. RO has no nutrients in it whatsoever and its pH sways wildly. You can get away with a week or two of no nutrients on city tap water but if you want your plant to actually grow then you've got to give them something to eat. Obviously growing in soil and hydro are two different animals, I've done both successfully. pH is critical at every stage of a plant's growth. Improper pH can cause the roots to not be able to uptake nutrients and can even make the osmotic balance reverse so that water flows out of the roots instead of into them, causing them to dry and die, killing the plant.

@ThatCrazyStonerChick If you want to have great bud with minimal effort, always pH your feed solution as well as the runoff. If you aren't collecting data, and something funny happens to your plants, you won't be able to figure out what it is and it will be harder for this forum to help you. You sound like you need this run to really be successful. You can trust that guy, or somebody with experience, your choice, it's not my loss if they die. A pH of 8.59 is way out of safe limits. I promise, aim for anywhere between 5.7-6.3 with a light feeding of N, P, K, Ca, Mg; aim for ~200 ppm TDS. The soil should have the rest.

Funny I grew these and my water is 7.2 PH Lab tested. Just saying as long as she's between 6-7 ph she will be ok

I am growing outdoors inside my laundry room that has my 6'x10' grow area isolated from the rest of the room. Aluminum shed is not insulated, but I have ventilation and heater, also good air circulation in the grow area that is isolated from the rest of the shed. I agree that any PH between 7.0PH and 6.0ph will work, mine stays around 6.6ph of my living soil, and water is close to the same. I use tap water that is in a 5gal. Drinking jug, with air stone for oxygenation, and that has been sitting over 24hrs. I always PH the water before I use it in a 1gal spray tank. The pics. Below are the fan leaves from 2 of my bag seeds, 15days old, which have been just topped for the second time. I will say my soil mix of 50% perilite has made a hugh difference in the growth of the plants. Much better oxygenation of the root system, they were just placed in their final pots.(12" plastic with many small drain holes.) My actual grow area is only a 2'x 3', with (1) 600w LED, which by the end of the month will have a 2nd one.

5.7 is just fine, you can go up to ~6.3. What size of container is she in? RO can also cause some funky issues with calcium and magnesium because it has none. Add the lowest recommended dose listed on the Cal/Mag container. Tap water is generally easier to work with unless it has an insanely high TDS. Anybody who tells you pH doesn't matter is wrong; it is critical to monitor pH with every watering if you want top-shelf buds. Get a pH/EC meter for like $20. Test your tap water before adding in nutrients. It should hopefully be less than ~0.2 EC (electrical conductivity) and if it is then switch to that instead of RO. Add a little nitrogen to that at the minimum dose as well. Don't soak the whole container, but pour probably like a cup as needed. It is hard to tell, but that soil looks really dry. Your temps and humidity are fine, be sure to not to aim the fan directly at the little seedling. Best of luck!

Good advice. My city tap water is 650 ppm(1.3 ec). So I have no choice but to use RO water. And since the OP is not in soil, she is using Promix, which almost all promix comes inert with just peat, perlite, lime and maybe a myco added. I use promix and test my ph and ppm every watering, similar to hydro. I also add cal/mag to my water first to add back in the nutrients I stripped away with the RO machine. Looks like her plants have bounced back after switching from soil to promix.

I re-checked my calendar and it's closer to 19days, they must be Indica,s since the leaves are so big, but yes, I topped after 3rd node, and just topped the six node. The damn thing is only about 8inches in height, but is bushed out like a shrub. I will try to get a good pic of the ladies later today. LOL, I was surprised by how the girls are growing. Temps are 74°F - 78°F, with 52%-58%humidity. Have fan moving air 24-7.

Don't worry about PH at this stage. You're in soil and that makes a huge difference. Some seedlings react to soils like Miracle grow, or promix, etc. When they're this small mist them don't water them. They pretty much only have one tap root at this early stage and if that is too wet the little plant will drown. Use straight up tap water that you let sit for 24 hours. There's more than likely calcium and magnesium in your water along with a few other minerals your plants need. Don't transplant at this stage. Just back away from them a little bit. Let em dry enough so all they need is a mist.

I started using tap water. The ro is $1 gallon. I let the tap sit until I need it, but I fill about 5 at a time. I am ph'ing to about 6.8 though. They're bigger now but I don't think they've made it to veg yet. The 5 blades are just coming up.

Also, to test the pH of you soil, not just the nutrient/water mixture, check out this link.

Test Media pH And EC With The 2:1 Technique, Pour-Through Method And Saturated Media Extract Method

Avoid a buildup of soluble salts and create an environment most conducive to nutrient uptake with these three common media testing methods.

2:1 method is easiest but requires the pH/TDS meters.

Thanks! I still haven't gotten the TDS meter but they're a lot bigger than what they were. They're actually growing. I am getting the meter. I just can't right now.

Well, they don't look bad. Watch the leaves. In a seedling if the leaves curl down they're pointing to their one tap root telling you that they can't breath because the soil is too moist. Sounds silly but it was 'sage' advice I received very early on. My first grow was a lot of fun. And worry. As well as a shit ton of reading. And more worry. It all worked out though. When ever I think I need to adjust something or 'remedy' something with the plants I stop and wait a little longer before doing anything. A lot of the time it was just me worrying my way through my first grow. I kept it fairly simple, which it appears you are doing as well.
Your seedlings do not look 'Ugh'.

That makes perfect sense. I assumed whatever the problems are that I could tell based on what area of the plant was damaged in whatever way. Damage on top... lighting. On bottom, soil, water, nutes, etc. This has been nerve wracking. But, to be honest, sometimes I go down there and just hang out. On one hand it's stressful. On the other it's very zen.
