Hello fello growmies. I'm finishing up my third grow and i'm using Mills Nutrients with kings mix coco for my medium.
My two previous grows I used Athena and noticed the yield was better then Mills. The buds are currenly drying so its hard to tell if there is a quality difference.

Those that I talk to say i should go organic to get the best quality bud?

Is it true that organic will give me a better product then synthetic when the plant is essentially getting the same nutrients just through different delivery?

Please advise.

Also, what is the best move for me organic wise to get the best quality and yield for my flowers? what medium and organic nutrients should I go with and how do I do so? I know ZERO about organic feeds and living soil and all that so please talk to me like i'm retarded.

Also, will i compromise yield going organic vs synthetic?

My main end goal is the best possible buds with the best yields. i dont mind buying a more expensive product if thats what is required.

Hey Drd.....

Considering every option there is for growing our beautiful plants, I believe the best way of growing is dependent on the person and their abilities and capabilities. 😬

I've always wanted to try 🪱....🫡

Yet I still use 50ish/50ish peatmoss/perlite....😬

My grows are not the best, but I grow stuff that I'm pretty happy with....😉

My point....🤔

I just closed and cleaned most of my areas because of a battle with 🪳🕷🦠🪲 and I'm deciding, like you, if I wanna try maybe something new for me.....🤯

It sounds like you and I would both benefit if someone with knowledge and time chimes in and gives their input haha.

Sorry to hear about your bug problems, whats your medium and feeding currently? Do you know what is causing the bugs at all?

Yeah, the bugs......😶

Considering my areas are in the backroom, where we enter and exit our house a couple dozen times a day in the summer, it could and should have been worse....🤭

I'm running the peat/perlite I mentioned above, but I've experimented with only a couple different ways, i.e. fox farms and kratky.....

I love the theory behind running organic mediums, but I think the quicker fixes using hydro works best for me....🥹

I snoop around these threads to gain a lil more knowledge if I decide to try new things.....

I watch threads/diaries of different growing styles or mediums that I'm interested in....🥸

As for yield, I've had a plant that grew tiny lil nugs that I almost kinda wish I still had, and I've had some monsters that were ehh....

If a plant turns out decent, regardless of yield, I'm trying to keep it.....

Hope you figure out how you wanna run the next participants.....😉

“ Is it true that organic will give me a better product then synthetic when the plant is essentially getting the same nutrients just through different delivery? “

No it’s not true.
Above all the grower plays the most important factor when it comes down to the end product
I’m an organic grower
You may get better yields with synthetic as it’s easy to use and if you can read it’s pretty hard to fess up totally.
However when it comes to flavour organics win hands down.
With organics there’s no ec testing ect
Your eye has to know what you’re looking at so it can be harder to pull off a good grow

Thank you for taking the time to respond! Would you mind explaining your organic feeding? are you doing living soil, top feeding or both? What are you using and what dosages? Also, when do you feel the plant?

If i go synthetic during vege and organic during flower would that give me a lesser product then having went organic during vege as well?

I don't know how organics got lumped in with "you don't have to bother testing EC." Toxic levels of EC can be produced entirely by organic sources so all I can say is if you don't think you need to worry about your EC in an organic grow, "F around and find out." 🤣
And I don't know if organic vs synthetic is the right comparison to make here... maybe better to say microbe converted nutrients vs immediate availability nutrients. The plant cares about ionic availability, not whether the label on the bottle says it's synthetic or sources organically. IMHO where the microbes win is aiding the production of VSC's, ie the REAL plant stink of skunk, garlic, cat piss, tropical body odor, etc. and the steering you do to get them is throw lots of sulfates in there... Potash, Epsom salt, seaweed extract, molasses... = sulfate-sulfate-sulfate-sulfate and helps make nice stinky plants when it comes to growing in soil. It's not guaranteed. Genetics and microbes still need to pull through for you, but you want to make sure they have the ingredients to do their thing.

Probably the biggest nuance I find with soil is it's like steering a cargo freighter ship vs coco and hydro being like a speedboat where you can turn on a dime if and when you need to. A slow moving ship you gotta know the turns coming up ahead and steer in advance so the ship will take that turn when it comes to it.

i appreciate the input. Can you please break it down like i'm stupid? What soil/living soil should i use? Also, what VSC's should i buy? Do you have a brand that you'd recommend? Lastly, what if i were to use athena nutrients and add those VSC's you mentioned? Would that give me the good yield of athena with an amazingly terpy product? I know thats likely a dumb question but i figured i'd ask. i am currently using mills nutrients and the yield is noticeably lighter then my last run which where i used athena.

You generally can’t get a meaningful EC reading from dry soil or solid organic matter; EC needs a liquid sample with dissolved ions.
You knew that mind 🤬

I personally use guano in soil
I haven’t used 1/2 synth & 1/2 organic so I can’t say.
I’d add some more but am sure my troll will pick up a spelling mistake or something else
