Chemdog x Brutus OG - F2
Currently the only strain I'm working.

Wants: Northern Lights and Chemdog. Maybe for Christmas.

Growing outside in the clay soil amended with composted chicken straw, leaf litter and horse manure and sand. Also I like to keep a few in 4-5 gallon pots with basic potting soil and manure tea weekly. Holes are dug 18-20" deep, lined with chicken wire and filled with all the above as well as a tablespoon of blood meal and tablespoon of Espoma Garden-tone. I give a monthly tablespoon of the Garden-tone and watering with manure tea. I use clean organic straw for mulch with a layer of horse manure in between. Most straw sold for live stock has herbicides. Don't use it.

That's about it. I've never had my soil tested. People for miles around have the same clay/rock soil and can easily find it, if I were interested. I've grown a lot of veggies in this crap and with the amendments through the years I can pretty much grow what I want.

Questions are always welcome.

Pics:
Six seeds I planted Saturday. Yeah, just soil in peat pots. What did you expect after two days?

Got some disappointing news this morning with my one and only Sativa pheno, he's got balls. Not really the problem, the problem is he's in the garden around several others. I may dig him up and move him or allow the pollen to develop and then cut him down. Haven't decided yet as the others are happy to just get some sun. Rain continues but did have a few hours of sun today.

I really thought with the way this Indica pheno was growing it would turn out to be male but so far so good. Put my hand in the pic to give some idea of size. This and the one above and a couple of others are about 11 weeks.

Awe, my two girls in the greenhouse stretching away 3 weeks in flower. There's a young spider who has a web between the two. If you look real close you'll spot her. Keeping my babies safe. Love all the work they do for me.

Not loving these spiders. I've got both black and brown widows. This one has taken up residence in a propane heater on my patio. Got bit on the leg a few years ago and can still see damaged skin. I'm no worse for wear and it wasn't bad nor even close to life threatening. No doubt a brown widow as they are less toxic.

Holy shit, an adult King Snake. It was basking next to a client's home when I disturbed it repairing a bathtub drain this afternoon. Wasn't happy I wanted to take a closer look. Hissed and snapped and even shook its tail like a rattler. Showed the client and 5 of her 6 kids (little one was napping). While we do live in a large city, well, on the edge and considered county of San Diego there's a lot of open country. Never know what I might run into.

Here's a flower I can't wait to taste.

Got a 8'x 16' greenhouse from my neighbor a few weeks ago. They used it as a storage and yeah, he smokes. It's still sitting in our front yard. Too stoned to get it in place. Maybe this weekend.

Long day and time to relax.

Happy growing.

  • Nope, I planted end of January hoping to produce extra large plants and they went into flower 3 weeks ago. And with our crap weather I assume they'll finish within a month or so. Looking forward to summer home grown. I'll start a winter crop from now on and fill that greenhouse. Thanks.

Nature is the way to go outside. I've used many chemical fertilizers in years past and found good healthy soil is the key. I read another farmer's grow log from last year who grew GIANTS in cow manure. Don't recall her name but thinking of trying it. Once composted the shit smells like perfect soil.
Thanks.

Update 5/22

Shitty weather again today. Really getting old although not as bad as I see our follow farmers in Colorado have it. Snow on the ground end of May would kill me. I feel for ya brothers and sisters. We just had 5 whole minutes of sun so I took a walk and checked on everything. I try and get pics at least 2-3 times a week. Little growth but I can't expect much with these cold sunless days. Just happy they're still doing well.

The past few days my phone battery has been dying and charging very slowly and I had to lower the screen brightness and took some real crappy pics, except this first one. The next six are posted as taken, two together then individually and then the next two. Didn't take time to check sex as the sun disappeared and got cold fast.

This frickin' pumpkin sprouted in a cold box I was composting in. That's one of a dozen tomatoes to the right. This happens every spring where ever I compost table scraps.

This box had only weeds/grass and horse manure. I tilled this past weekend to eliminate the sprouts. Yeah, I didn't compost it long enough to kill the weed seeds. Such is life but it's ready for planting. I plan on putting 4 tomatoes at the corners and one pot plant in the middle. Should look interesting if they do well.

I clipped one branch of my male. Someone here said to dry and cure and taste it. Haven't smoked a male in decades. What the hell, I got plenty to last the year.

Horrible pic of my guard spider in the greenhouse but you can see she's getting bigger. It'll be fun to watch her grow with the plants. Just hoping she doesn't end up a meal for one of the lizards who live in the greenhouse.

Hoping for sun soon. Reports are by the 31st. I'll believe it when I see it.

Happy Growing.

I just found this thread. Funny how I immediately needed to post about the spider pic, and as I continued reading saw all of the spider comments. I literally said out loud, "Fuck that" the second I laid eyes on that pic. I don't do spiders at all and when I touch a black widow's web, I instantly get the chills. They're like guitar strings. They scare the shit out of me and they're instantly sentenced to death whenever I find one. Nice looking plants though. I look forward to tagging along for the ride.

Everyone hates spiders but snakes are ok? As a plumber I have to at least tolerate spiders or I'd never be able to do the job. I crawl under houses and in atics a lot. Servicing my apprenticeship many moons ago I opened up a cabinet under a kitchen sink coated with cock roaches. That bothered me more than any spider. I had to lay on my back to work while the roaches would drop on me.

I think plumbers need to start wearing capes to work... No fucking way could I do that and not suffer from nightmares the rest of my life. I mean snakes and reptiles no problem but venomous spiders and roaches no thanks. You would have had no problem winning fear factor in my opinion.

I guess with spiders it's because I have to live with them and them coming in the house from time to time. I don't really have to deal with snakes. I'm okay with snakes from a distance. But being close enough to picking one up, or picking one up for that matter, is like that song. "Hell No,....Hell to the no, no. no"

Quick update

Sunshine today. Charged up an old phone and took a few picks. I'll grab one of my old cameras tomorrow and get shots of everything, weather permitting of course but had to share this one of a baby praying mantis patrolling one of my females. Love this pic.

Another long day of work ahead so until tomorrow, Happy Growing.

I’ve seen a lot of guys use chicken shit including the famous chickenman. I think he over did it though. When I got a sample I swear it almost smelt like chicken shit :D

Chicken shit is HOT and can't be used without composting. The straw takes a long time to breakdown. Once composted it's a great additive for my clay soil but I would never grow in just composted chicken straw. Adding horse or cow manure, compost, manure tea and rain, aquarium and/or pond water seems to be working pretty well.

Time to take a walk up to the garden and update.

Update 5-25

Some Idiot put their Nikon camera away several years ago and left the batteries in it so that same idiot is having to use an old cell phone. Ordered a new battery for my good cell phone and found out it's not a battery problem but a charging problem with the phone. Time for a new one but just can't swing the $900 price tag at the moment. I did order a charger to go with the new battery which is scheduled to arrive tomorrow so I'll be able to limp along for a few months. Amazon Prime ROCKS.

Not a lot of growth and several are over watered from the daily/nightly rains, although the female I placed with the male under the Loquat tree has almost caught up in hight to the male. About a foot of stretch since I put her out. And that male is really putting out the pollen. I'll have to take cuttings today and store for fall. No sign of the mantis from yesterday but I didn't search.

The most growth seen is on an Indica pheno. In three crappy weather days she's added several inches while her three siblings seem to be struggling with all the rain.

I ended up putting 5 Brandywine tomatoes in the empty compost box but still plenty of room for weed. Hard to see in the photo but they're there.

Weather forecast today is cloudy with more rain tomorrow and Monday. Oh for joy - end SARCASM.

Still nothing but peat pots and soil. Hopefully the beans will pop in the next few days. I may even try a few indoors until we get sun and warmth. No reason for another pic.

Velvet Queen sunflower, even with the weather and all the slug/snail damage on lower leaves is reaching for the sky.

Mammoth sunflowers in small pots around the pool are doing very well.

My wife's favorite flowers, sweet peas. All our pea plants are suffering from powdery mildew. I sprayed last week with neem oil and will spray again this weekend.

Since everyone here loves spiders (have I said "end sarcasm" yet? Just checking...) here's a crazy 3D web. I have no idea what species made this web as I've never seen her but this has been here for over a month. I assume that's a leaf but who knows.

Greenhouse moving day hopefully tomorrow. As soon as I get enough coffee in me I'll ready the spot and line up some help lifting it over the fence tomorrow. Even in two pieces with the panels and door removed it's heavy.

Lot's of other plants growing well in this weather. Oregano is almost 3' tall. Onions are loving it.

I bought a couple of little goldfish two weeks ago and put them in a half wine barrel with a solor pump and have been feeding them mosquito larva. They too love this weather and every week I change about 25% of their water and use it to water plants. Really good additive.

Enough for now. Time to get motivated and get stuff done today.

Until next time, Happy Growing.

I would assume it's just a large garden spider. Took a few more pics. No spider to be found. If I remember I'll take a look tonight as that's usually when they repair or even rebuild their webs. We had one on the patio between the TV and propane heater and watched her tear down and rebuild her web nightly. Big spider.

Cloning. Usually I put them in potting soil in peat pots in the greenhouse, give 'em a couple weeks to root then into the ground or a pot. I took 8 over a month ago and had to set them up in a corner of the garage on my work bench due to the cold weather. 6 led's, 2 cfl's and a couple of old style 25 watts for warmth. I covered with plastic coke bottles (first time I've tried it) and got 8 of 8 but they won't grow under those lights so a few days ago I threw 'em in the greenhouse. Was hoping to wait until sunny days so they don't start flowering but they would have died if I had left them in the garage. Look how sad they look. I'll transplant tonight or tomorrow and hope for the best. Not worried as I'll be taking dozens more in the next few months.

Cloning: I use a blade to cut on an angle and place the end in water right after cutting. I treat this like transplanting, only in the evening or cloudly days. Once I've got all the cuttings I dip them in Bontone rooting powder and into potting soil. I'll give them a 24 hr dark period then 14/10 light or in the greenhouse. Those coke bottles covers work pretty well but come summer it will cook 'em.

I really should buy a good grow light but bills keep getting in my way and I need a new phone so the light will have to wait.

Greenhouse Update:

This is a lot of work. Wife needed me to cut up some wood before i could get started on clearing the spot. I did move two rock piles and pulled a ton of weeds. I'll use the pulled weeds to help level off the site although I do want some slope so it doesn't flood inside. I'll pull the rest of the weeds after a few bt's then lay the cardboard, chicken wire and black plastic. Have I mentioned this is a lot of work yet? My favorite chair and favorite bong are getting jealous. I can feel their wrath... A couple more Amnesia Haze bt's and back to work.
