Planted a few on Wednesday

and a few Gophers today

What the hell.

I'll be planting this and that throughout the year as time allows, we'll see.

I've been avoiding the greenhouses for months (I needed a break) but should have this weekend to strengthen the little pvc one and wrap it and plan to add electricity, a sink and 60 gal containers in the large one in the coming weeks. We'll see.

I've got a lot of work to do this weekend. We'll see.

I keep saying that but trust me, I can only do so much and right now I gotta cook dinner. Could be worse, would be raining

And it begins again

A GG4, 2 auto's and 5 GDP.

This GDP strain I got rocks. Strong plants and big purple buds. I crossed it with some of Phylex's 9lb hammer crosses. Haven't planted any seeds yet but they're up next. Phylex's nasty plants were purple and kick ass. Smoking it currently and couldn't be happier.

Oops, sorry, not smoking but vaping.

Any 40 watt battery mod will run this awesome bud vaper producer.

I got the above for $30 ea when buying 2 and the batteries for approx $25 ea.

You can buy $100+ vaporizers but when the coil goes the unit is useless. Keeping the coil separate you can keep the battery mods for years and only paying minimal, $10 month for a coil.

I do modify it by removing the screen in the mouthpiece and placing one on the bowl.

Gotta stir it after 2-3 hits and they supply a stir stick

As well as an oil sting (obviously never used) and screens for the mouthpiece which I don't need.

My first one lasted 3 months. #2 has been bearing the load for a month plus so I need to order a couple more.

Looking forward to a killer Loquot harvest next month.

Friday Update 04-09-2021

6 Granddaddy Purple, a GG4 cross and an Magnum auto x Dragon Flames cross all popped April 1.

And 2 Chemgophers

Planted more of all as I'm going to give seedlings away this year but for me I planted Ground Pounders-gk F1 and some of my F2's, Blunt Force Trauma, and a few LA Woman.

I still have a nice upcoming menu of seeds with Dragon Flames, Tropicanna Cookies, Black Abyss-gk and Capt. Dreams. Looking forward to trying them all.

Tomato seedlings are killin 'it

Not too sure about those clippings I took from a plant that survived the winter but the weather has been great so they may root.

I really haven't had time to do shit with the greenhouse or setting up an automatic watering system. I did lay snail bait and have an electronic anti mouse/rat device in the little greenhouse and nothing has been touched. I've lost many a plant to both pests through the years.

While I've had a lot of success in half and 1 gal pots of coco with MasterBlend nutes I'm upping to 3 gal nursery pots this year, removing the lower shelf I grew them on last year and placing the pots on plastic crates and eventually on paint roller grates to allow more room for growth. And instead of collecting the waste water I'm going to drain it onto gopher holes. Payback's a bitch.

I love your garden and all of your experiments, can't wait to see what comes this season. I also have that sub-herb ceramic bowl, its nice but can be finicky.

Thursday Update 4-15

These are off to a friend tomorrow

They are excited!

Potted a few

Half and one gallon pots until I figure out their sex.

These auto crosses

will get 1 gal pots and grown in soil with and in between the tomatoes.

Had a LA Woman pop

Second planting. Hoping for success regardless of sex.

I'm currently toast and need to lay down before falling down.

Update Monday 04-19-2021

Scotch/rocks in hand

Long day

Autos in 1 gal soil pots

Was planning on growing these in the garden between the tomatoes but I believe they will all fit on the swing set. I have a dual water timer that I can run down to it.

The ones popped on the first are
rocking

Gotta get a timer, 2 55 gal drums and a new water pump. Can't frickin wait until this is all automated and I'm only mixing water once a week or less!

This one makes me laugh

A pot seed popped with a tomato. No idea how it got in there but they will be grown together in soil in the garden.

By growing in the garden in soil I mean grown in a pot of 1+ gallon in a hole to fit the pot and the pot filled with a peat type soil. Otherwise the frickin gophers will feast on my plants and won't even give a reach around. They make me want to get out the shotgun and blast them into eternity.

Speaking of soil I've mixed a good one this year.
25% composted (2 year) horse manure

25% soil I made for strawberries covered with dirty chicken straw and over wintered

25% used coconut coir

And 25% 2 yr old garden soil
And just cause a handful of a 3 year old compost full of mycorrhizae fungus. I do wish I had added peralite to make the soil lighter but this should be a good mix, we'll see

I was going to pop a few more seeds but for a change I've got plenty of seedlings

Damn, sucked that scotch down
Time for another and time to medicate. Until next time, Happy Growing!

Thursday update April 29

Ended my day early as I heard my new air and water pump arrived.

And my digital timer just now!

I put the top of the greenhouse on a few evenings ago and leveled off a pallet for the 55 gallon drums behind the little greenhouse.

I still need to put a weed barrier under the pallet which I'll purchase tomorrow.

If you've ever grown in coco and watered by hand you know what a royal pain it can become. I'm currently mixing 12 gallons every 2 days.

I can't keep up on watering 3 x's a day but in a few days I'll water 4 x's a day and only mix water once a week. I can't tell ya how exciting the prospect is. I did 3 straight coco grows and while the end product rocked I know it will be way better with 4 waterings a day every day at the same set times.

Plants are rocking. They're so small at this point they don't need a ton a water/waterings. 2-3 a day is fine for a couple of weeks.

I still have about a dozen I need to plant.

Why so many? I plan on keeping about 6-8 of the best females alone in the large greenhouse and of course a couple of nice males for pollinating a few lower branches of said females.

The autos

are in soil and all the nicest auto leaning females will be bred with the best auto male. This line isn't set so there will be some regular photo period plants. Once I have several hundred seeds I will grow them continuously in coco on automatic pilot and stabilize the line.

Hoping to get the tomatoes in soil pots with weekend and moved into the garden.
Top one looks to be little deformed GDP and the bottom a Gopher

I should probably just clip 'em.

I'm gonna go play in the greenhouse

Happy Growing!

I have an interesting weed growing wild this year

I saw it the first time yesterday. Watered it. More then likely a gopher. It's about 10' away from where I sit on the patio and i have thrown seeds, one at a time out that way and I wouldn't throw seeds of any other strain.

It has to be a month plus old. For the most part the surrounding weeds have browned and died back. Nice surprise.

Update Friday 04-08-2021

Full automatic watering

This is exactly what I needed. I modified the drain to 1 1/2" and ended it near the propane tank where only weeds grow. My new normal is checking the plants and water level daily before I leave and when I return.

Taking the day off to finish putting the soil pots of autos and tomatoes on a drip system

so I don't ever have to water by hand again other than ferts once a month and Super Thrive for transplanting.

This is the way it should be done.

Until next time, Happy Growing!

I find my pots don't all dry out at the same time and by 1-1.5 months some of them are on different schedules. Do you not have any issues with that? With the amount you plant in both vegetables & other do they all dry out on time? So by 5pm ( or what ever time or day ) on Tuesday they all need water?

I'm only watering the soil twice a week currently but when the 90F days start I'll have to go every other to every day. They do seem to dry pretty evenly and have used auto timers for tomatoes without issue. We'll see how it goes this summer.

Vacation update

Spent 8 days camping on Bishop Creek.

8000 feet elevation. Snowed on us twice and rained on us once, last night.

Caught a lot of trout in the streams and lakes and even a bass on the Owen's River. Planned on staying until tomorrow but the rain last night cut our trip short by a day. But today I got to see how my auto watering worked. Here's the coco plants on 5-9, the day we left.

And today

Kicking myself for not doing this years ago.

I got trout in the smoker

I need to deal with then a shower and bed. I'm beat

Until next time Happy Growing.

Update Thursday 5-19-2021

Another one of those days

The wild weed plant turned out to be male

and got pulled this morning and thrown in one of the composter boxes. Such is life. Us men are rarely appreciated. Get use to it

This poor GG4 cross was getting eaten alive

Found this bastard on the main stem pretending to be part of the plant.

Scrapped that fucker off the bottom of my shoe. It crawled up from the ground but a good reminder I need to start mixing and spraying Bt on all plants weekly.

This weekend I hope to up the nutes to full and increase the fertigations to 5 x's a day. 5am, 8:30am, 12pm, 3:30pm & 7pm. I expect excelled growth.

Can't wait!

Soil auto's are doing okay, for soil (soil SUCKS!)

3 of ten. @PipeCarver they seem to be drying together. I've checked the soil which agrees and I'm going to up the waterings to every other day. The tomatoes need a bit more now. I'll obviously monitor the plants but they look as though they need a bit more water every week. Have I mentioned I HATE growing in soil yet? Just checking... can't wait to get these in coco and 9-10 week start to finish. You have no idea!

If you've noticed the rags around the soil plants let me explain.

I pour vinegar on these rags to keep the rabbits and squirrels out of the garden. Shit works. Nothing has been touched and I see rabbits all the frickin time. I will be setting slip knots to catch the rabbits for smoking. Nothing like smoked rabbit

I'm gonna go eat dinner. Until next time, Happy Growing.

Update Sunday 5-23-2021

Upped the strength to full on the nutes for the coco plants, filled drums to 40 gallons apiece and set the timer to 5 fertigations a day.

Growth should really take off in the coming days.

Upped the waterings on the tomatoes/autos in soil to Mon, Tue & Fri, 5am for 30 minutes. First fertigation will be next weekend with Garden Tome at half strength.

Added snail bait to both the little greenhouse and garden, mixed bT to spray after sunset tonight and added fresh vinegar to the garden's virtual fence. Can't believe how well that is working.

And that's it for the week. All I have to do now is check on the plants daily and enjoy the extra time this automation affords me.

Until next time, Happy Growing!

Update Saturday 5-29-21

Growth has really taken off

All have been topped once. I need to move these into the large greenhouse. Looking to purchase a couple more 55 gal drums and will be ordering another water and air pump.

Soil plants doing as well as can be expected but this GDP with a tomato is another rock star.

Love all the color in this one. Probably a male.

Pomigrantit bush is a year old

Needs a trim.

This sunflower

Started growing in a half gallon pot of coco in the little greenhouse from a fallen seed from one of the 9' tall giants I grew last year in the raised box next to the greenhouse. Only about 4' tall in the 2 gal pot but enjoying it all the same.

A client is providing milkweed for Monarch butterfly reproduction on their porch.

Is that too cool? So I purchased a Milkweed a couple days ago.

Put it next to the sunflower. Checked for eggs this morning, nada. Gonna try cloning it as my clients are shelling out $20 a plant and caterpillars are munching them down.

Really enjoying growing this year. Can't see ever going back to manual watering, especially in coco.

Soil plants will get some love tomorrow and their first fertigation. Tomatoes definitely need it and looks like I need to up their watering to 45 minutes 3 x's a week, Mon, Wed & Fri. and add in a lite fish emulsion feeding every other week. Weekly for the tomatoes.

Another additive for tomorrow

This is really rich soil left over from our Bishop camping trip. Only have enough for a couple tablespoons per plant but should help.

Planning another camping/fishing trip next month to the Kern River and visit a close friend who moved to Bakersfield last year. He use to live across the street and we spent many a night getting hammered. Miss him.

All for now. I'll take some soil pics tomorrow. Of the 10 auto crosses 5 look to be autos and 5 regular. The 1 in coco (the plant in the front left corner on top of this update) is as big as the others on the tray so who knows.

Until tomorrow, Happy Growing.

Soil Update

The auto crosses

The 5 smaller (hopefully leaning auto)

The 5 larger

Too early to really tell how they'll turn out but they're about 6 wks old so soon I'll be able to pick out the auto learners. Males should start showing soon.

The Gopher

And the GDP

They all needed some ferts, even with 25% composted horse manure in the soil mix.

I hate growing in pots but it's the easiest and cheapest way to avoid the gophers and the plants can send out smaller roots into the soil.

An auto cross in coco topped once

Amazing. It may just be a photo sensitive leaner but damn, nothing in soil compares.

That's all I got today. Happy Growing!

Yes, that is a standard 1qt sprayer. 20 plants 7 +/- wks old. Got to move them as they are over crowded. A bug or disease could wipe me out. Working on it. Got to top again but still. Goal is to move to large greenhouse within the next 10 days.

Nixed the camping trip and opted for a weekend in a hotel with a jacquizz. My back needs the rest. There's plenty of fishing opportunities and spending time with a friend and getting hammered again will be nice. I sent him seeds but it's like 106F today. How do you grow in that oven? Sheep dip. We'll chat how as I'll be bringing him several dozen GDP seeds.

Maybe I'll do a how to pvc greenhouse and cheap auto. It could happen.

Let's try that again before I poor my second drink

03-29-2021

04-09

04-15

Had a few more pop that grew quick and got their own pots

04-26

05-08

05-29

06-06

They've all been topped twice now and trimmed heavy

Except for the auto cross

'cause I know if I do it will start flowering. It may be a Dragon leaner and I'd welcome what it may produce, if female.

Automatic fertigations (5 x's a day for 1 minute each) are killing it and I'm having to mix about 40 gallons a week, usually on a Sat or Sun. As soon as I can thin them out, transplant the smaller ones into 3 gal pots the better. There's several with leaves so big they must be males. We'll see.

A nice mix of plants for a change with Granddaddy Purple, Ground Pounder, Chemgopher, GG4 crosses, LA Woman and a Dragon auto cross so I shouldn't get burned out come fall.

Soil plants are growing slow in comparison of course but those are more for working the cross and not so much as smoke, but I won't complain

That's all for now. Happy Growing!
