I think what you are not seeing is the neem cake, which is a great source of slow release nitrogen. As well as - Crab meal is 4-3-0. Fish bone is 3-18-0. How much of that 18% is immediately available, I am not sure of. But bone meal's 0-10-0, breaks down at a slower rate, from what I understand. I was also skeptical at first pulling bone and blood, but after seeing others' results, I was convinced. Also to mention, the anti-pest/pathogen properties of neem/crab are a big motivation, and adding these to a mix with bone and blood could be overkill. Also to mention, the concept of blood meal grosses me out, and I'd trade the stentch of neem cake/crab/fish bone any day ;)

As far as re-amending, do you think that adding 1/3 of each ingredient is necessary? I'm not doubting you, I've just seen folks mention that this could be a tad overkill. A common practice seems to be adding a bit of alfalfa to break down the goods further, and replenishing some EWC. The idea of this is that a lot of the goods are just beginning to fully break down by the time your first run with the mix is done.
I was also considering adding green sand being as that I'm going to start recycling, even though green sand takes forever and a day to break down - it could be a good K source on the long term. But, I also prefer simple, yet effective, and don't want to go tossing in more than I need to.

With all that being said - Also been reading up on the use of comfrey, barley, nettles etc. Seems to be common practice for some folks recycling and growing no-till style. The world of organic soil is absolutely fascinating...

Hey sea, I was trolling a few years ago and remember you saying you found a great bio-char outside of marysville? That's not to far from me if that place still exists could you please pm me where it's at?

Mmm... I think it was a source of bulk rice hulls, not bio-char, and IIRC it's in Yuba City. I did my own biochar using rice hulls, a method that an outfit in the PI showed on video. I'm not sure I have the page bookmarked, I'll have to look around for it, ok?

Ahhhh, Bubba.
Please do bother to tell us how you mix this blend up.
That's a great looking ingredient list. Longer than I like, but I'm flexible (for my age).
Neem meal is hard for me to find and I don't even know what Karanja is.
Seems I have a lifetime of learning to look forward to.

Karanja is another tree, like neem, IIRC. Hold on...

This is a great company. I have received excellent service from them, and their products seem a much higher quality then the down to earth neem I was using. If anyone doesn't like the smell of neem, karanja is a great alternative. I have not tried the cake (they were out of stock), but I am very happy so far with the oil.

Hey let me start off by saying I have no friggin idea what I'm doing!? By that I mean I don't know where to start a new post or don't even know where to post this. I read organic soil so I'm guessing this might be the place to post!? I'm super new to forums of any sort and new to growing. So please don't bite my head off and if anyone can please do point me in the right direction. Thanks well with that being said here it goes.

I'm super new to growing. Literally found a seed in turkey bag and told myself fuck it I gotta do this!!! Kick myself in the ass for not starting 10 years ago just happy that I finally did tho. With that being said I jumped into this without knowing shit! pretty stupid of me but I'm finally at a point where I have everything I need. Just put two plants into flower the other day. Pretty stoked. Anyhow sorry for the long boring intro but at first I put the seedlings into fox farm soil. Honestly I kept grabbing any info on the net to help me. I came across tga super soil which all my plants are in now and I think everything is going great with that. This is my first time so I guess everything looks great to me. Lol but someone reached out to me and sent me ideal420 soil. I just put 4 seedlings of venom OG in it but the soil is hard as fuck and it seems like it doesn't like to accept water. I know that sounds super stupid but when I water it the water literally sits on the soil for a minute. So just curious if anyone has used this soil!? And since I'm asking about soil does anyone have input on tga super soil!? Again I apologize for this long ass stupid post but any advice would be great.

There's a magnifying glass upper left corner for the search box that will be your best friend when looking for specific s, and there's a link on the homepage for beginner grows.

Learn off others mistakes and have fun soon you'll look back and freak how deep into the rabbit hole you've gone!

Hi Flex! Congrats on starting your first journey growing! It is certainly an addictive hobby! My advice would be to put a good layer of high quality fresh EWC on the top soil and then cover with some kind of leaves or mulch. Maybe rather then watering all at once, just water little bits and let it soak in. I even use a sprayer sometimes to just wet the mulch. If the soil is really dry, it can become hydrophobic and kind of repel the water. (never used that kind of dirt). Adding something with a high saponin content can also help (Aloe, yucca, etc)

Peace!

Hey thanks for the response I'll definitely keep that in mind. And lol yes I already feel the suction! after the first transplant I did I have ordered enough seeds to last me 2 years of harvest and I'm only half way there to my first harvest in life. Lol thanks again.

Hey bro. Thank you. I'm pretty excited and Pretty sure I started something that'll stick with me for a long time. Lol anyhow thanks for the advice I'll definitely give the spray a shot and maybe water it once a day instead of every other. It most definitely becomes really hard by the second day after I water. I literally have only watered it 3 times. I just put them in there a week ago. Anyhow thanks again bro.

Learn how to 'bottom water' (and feed). Simply put, place the plant in a tray of some sort that will hold water, you want it at least 2" high. Fill the tray with about an inch of water to start, then let the soil soak it up. Since the water's just running off, you may need to do this a few times to really get the soil moistened well. If there's water left after several hours, you can remove it if you like. Once you really get it down you'll be able to add just enough water that it will be soaked up and the soil won't be left too wet, but just moist.

By using this method you can water less frequently (according to your style of every other day right now), yet more thoroughly. Once the plants get really going though, you may find yourself back in daily watering territory.

Capillary action, IN action.

Beyond that, you'll want to click through the site. Every section has a Post New Thread link at the top of the section. However, we do ask that you do a little searching before posting a thread, just to make sure your question hasn't already been answered, possibly better even, elsewhere. :)
