CHICAGO (AP) — A Cook County Jail guard, a Chicago police dispatcher and three inmates have been charged in what federal authorities say was a scheme to stuff marijuana and other contraband into sandwiches to smuggle them into the jail.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says in a news release that guard Jason Marek is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute after he allegedly accepted $200 to smuggle the contraband into the jail last year.

One inmates' girlfriend and another's wife also were charged. Police dispatcher Stephanie Lewis was charged with illegally accessing a law enforcement computer to gain personal information about Marek that authorities say the others wanted to threaten him with when he failed to deliver the contraband.

It's not immediately clear if Marek or Lewis had retained attorneys.
