I've used potassium permanganate, in ponds. It causes flocculation of detritus, suspended algae, etc, and clears the water after turning it a beautiful shade of purple. IIRC it's also got medicinal properties (in aquatics). And so, I am tagged.

Used to use it to treat Koi fish for some problems. It's been too many years to remember what exactly. I believe it worked we'll though.
