Been looking into pitbul resque places but the only one with an open web site near by is in SF and they only take dogs from SF. Any other ideas would be helpful.

Thanks! I`ll hold off on putting him down until I can call on monday! Until then if anyone wants to adopt Bruit please PM me ASAP!

An other option could be if any local persons would be able to take him in for an extended amout of time I`d be greatful, again PM me ASAP!

For some of us, yer talkin' about FAMILY, regardless of breed.

If you focus on responsibility you will never deal with liability.

While I adore my dog(s), I think I have to agree with this. My girl has gotten into it with a very large bully breed and she kicked his ass, she could easily kill most other dogs or at least give them a run for their money, and she's hurt me by wagging her tail. I can trust her around people, but if another dog went after her I would have to call her off. Fortunately, all I have to do is call her off, I DON'T have to reach my hand into the fray to get her to come off. I have worked very hard to train her on these things. Now, I need to train her not to shit where people walk.

I'm sorry for all this, because in this instance your dog has cost you severely, and the reality very well may be *because* he's a pit the county or state may very well require he be put down. He put his teeth on an human being, that cannot be tolerated. A pit, however sweet, is going to do more damage than many other dogs, and all such breeds are to be treated with a different level of respect and handling.

Nothing loves you back like a pit. My pit used to go everywhere with me. Super durable on hikes and camping trips. The best all around dog I ever had. Smart, strong, fast, athletic and fun.
Oh that's a load! Lots of breeds and mutts are just as dedicated to their humans as pits and have plenty of strength and stamina, as well as ferocity in protecting us.

I promise you my Ridgie and my now-dead Lab-mix, Olde Missy Dawg, when she was young, could have done the same and would be running the same circles around you as any pit (the Ridgie, I truly suspect, would be running circles around the circle-runners, I've never seen/handled a dog as active or agile except border collies and Aussies). Better yet, though, that old Lab would have gotten you some small game while she was at it, too. I think she had some sort of terrier in her mix, she was a strange looking dog, especially at certain angles. Even better yet with that Olde Dawg, when she made a kill there were no blood, no guts, a perfect and clean kill every time. I've got pix to prove it. She was such a good dawg, RIP, Missydawg.

(P.S. The strongest dogs I've seen can keep up with people on horseback.)
He was excited and in a dog fight so it happens. He doesn`t usually bite people. He does jump up on people and can scratch you with his paws.He seems to think he can fly or something. He`s very stocky and not the kind of dog you would expect to jump so much ,but he`s pretty good at jumping for such a hefty dog. Half Brendal and half white fur, ears not cropped and not fixed.Loves to fetch and lick people.Very loyal and loving.
He's been in other fights, he's not yet a year old, let me guess, he's also got a nice, full set of balls, too, right? You let him jump up on people, is he getting enough exercise, even? And what's this with "he doesn't usually bite people"??? Oh my God, REALLY???

I agree, if you get another dog, don't get a pit. Get something that doesn't need exercise and is happy to sleep next to you with the snoring. Until you learn about how to keep, train and handle dogs, until you can afford all of the consequences and not just feed and the occasional vetting, don't get another dog. Find a home for this one, if you can in good conscience that is, and then just take care of yourself. YOU personally have been handed an awful lot to deal with, and while a dog can provide us much-needed love and friendship, we have a moral obligation to be able to provide more than that for them.

Can you call your puppy off a fight? Do you think if he's castrated right now (because that's a huge part of the problem, he's becoming sexually mature and that causes all sorts of things to happen) that someone else could possibly train him in such a manner? That is what's required, because an animal like this, completely irrespective of breed, is more dangerous than leaving a gun lying around. A gun doesn't have a mind of its own, it doesn't feel, it doesn't need love and care and attention and training. A dog does, no matter the breed, but especially strong breeds.

I wrote that after I got to the post quoted. Can you really and truly, in good conscience, offer this dog to anyone who might contact you?

He`s a good dog.needs to be in the right setting is all and above all needs lots of attention and love.Yes I agree it`s time to do the snip on him.He isn`t all that agressive. The other dog keeps starting it with him because it`s his yard.Still he`s at a turning point,if he doesn`t get the snip and soon all he`ll be good for is a junkyard gaurd dog.But he is very loyal and wants to please at this point. Not all that agressive except to the male dog who challanged him. That`s very new.He has been in an other fight with the same dog,he just wanted to play when the other dog bit him in the nose and that`s what set him off.He still plays with the female dogs out here and they play with him. I remember when pits didn`t have such a bad rap.Remember the Little Raskals afternoon show? They had a pitbull with a circle drawn around it`s eye.Bruit has the same floopy ears and look on his face! Oh and the jumping thing is where he get excited and wants to lick you in the face out of love. He`s being trained not to do that and he`s better but needs more work.So far he still jumps but when you tell him he`s a bad dog he now rolls over on his back and shows his belly for some reason. If I had the money I`d take him to a dog trainer and get some tips.He is getting better at being on a leash. He used to trip me up and knock me down then try to lick me to death! He`s very strong for his size and still very playful.

Losing a pet is hard mark! i feel for ya we had to have are dog put down last year.its never easy bro!

There was a reason many American settlers had American Staffordshire terriers. They owned them more than any other dog. They were the dogs that can keep up with horses. Do some research Seamaiden. The AM Staff was the most commonly owned dog in America until about 1936 for a reason. Because before that a dog had to be useful and durable. The AmStaff is the main dog that helped settle America.

Why are they the main dogs that they use to fight? Do you think it is just because they are good at it? No! It is because they will do it for their owner. Your ridgie was probably wonderful as were all your other dogs. I have had other dogs. Chances are if he wasn't feeling good or injured your ridgie wasn't going to willingly go out and play or fight.

Yes all dogs have a certain degree of it but there is a reason the settlers had them and people fight them. Your ridgie might be very good in fight #1 but will it fight in fight #2 with both its ears ripped off in fight #1. Will it still follow you across the country and fight a bear after it was swatted by a bear a month before? NO!

There is no way you can justify saying others dogs have Am Staff qualities. Without the Am Staff America's wilderness would have been much harder to tame.

The strongest dog as determined by the international dog pulling contests is an Am Staff. The world record is like a 65 pound Am Staff pulling 1300 pounds or something freaky like that.

If there was a super bowl of dog fighting the winner will be an Am Staff.

If there was a decathlon for dogs the winner would be an Am Staff. There would be a few faster dogs, better swimmers, better jumpers, smarter dogs but when all the points were added up in all the events the winner would be an Am Staff because he was great in all of them.

As for the love comment well that was said in the spirit of the thread moment and in actuality all dogs really love you back. But most won't keep doing things for you hurt and most won't get purposely hurt for you. You might find individual dogs of any breed that would. However, you could get any Am Staff and be hard pressed to find one that wouldn't.

A Ridgeback and a Lab are not going to be able to do all the things an Am Staff can do. They just can't. Do some dog research before you make claims.

It doesn't take strength to keep up with a horse either it takes endurance. WTF??? Am Staffs don't need to be exercised like some dogs. They can stay fit in a small apartment and still go out in the yard and kick the crap out of your ridgie and Lab at the same time if it wanted too.

Pits are used to hunt bears and ridgebacks are used to hunt lions. Bears can easily kill any lion and pits can easily kill any Ridgeback. My god they are cousins to the Dalmatian. One of the dumbest, most stubborn health problem dogs there is. They don't have the durability of an AmStaff. They couldn't be counted on for years of work because they have a list of health problems a mile long. Just look.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhodesian_Ridgeback This dog is HIGH MAINTENANCE and a health issue waiting to happen.

The Am Staff has the fewest health issues of any dog. They can eat stuff that would kill a lesser dog. They have the constitution of a mountain dwarf.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Staffordshire_Terrier

Notice the health issue is a paragraph. A small paragraph. The issues with Ridgebacks is long and there are paragraphs on each issue. So when you and I go to settle America after about a year you won't have a dog except one of the Am Staff puppies I give you.

IMO Am Staffs are the greatest all around dog especially when health issues and maintenance is taken into consideration.

Aren't ridgies, aka: African lion dog, related to pit bulls? I thought they were. Bully breeds are great dogs. It is said that you don't yell at or hit bully breeds because they bond the most with their owners, and can actually get their feelings hurt.

PS They are not all aggressive dogs either. An enormous German Shepard came into our yard. Our dogs always play great with other dogs. In fact my in laws french mastiff was over. The Shepard attacked the mastiff and as soon as it did both of my dogs held it down by the throat and waited for my wife to get there. She was terrified, but as soon as they let go it got up and ran. They could have torn that dog into little bitty bite sized pieces if they wanted to. But they didn't want to, they just wanted him to stop attacking their friend and took the appropriate action.

i feel bad for this dog, another security system with an uncertain future...i hope u can find him a good home but thats not easy, a good start would be getting him fixed though, more pet owners will want this and less dog fighters...when i had to find a home for our pitt mix because of not having a home and not being able to rent anywhere because of breed restrictions, i had a hell of a time finding anyone competent that wanted a pet and not a fighter or gaurd but with enough work its possible

Lmao at Bully Breeds over weight PetBull Terrier mixes.
Lmao at Castration let me cut your fucking balls off or spay you.
If that is the only way you think you can control a dog you shouldn't own one period.

I volunteer quite a bit of time and mileage each year transporting dogs from shelters/owner surrenders/etc. for a rescue group that places well over 400 dogs per year.

Spaying/nuetering isn't about controlling your dog, it's about overpopulation and saving dogs from suffering and eventual euthanasia.

if it were so easy to control dogs and their sexual desires we wouldn't have shelters or sites like petfinders simply chocked full of unwanted dogs.

s h

I agree it should used as a tool only to control overpopulation.

I`m just now getting a better picture of what`s really going on.Yes the dog got loose and they may have got into it a little last night, but there dog isn`t hurt.I saw it a little while ago.I didn`t see any bandages on the farmers daughter inlaw ether! I think all that happened was a little pecking order stuff between the dogs because if my dog had wanted it would have killed there little dog.Might have sounded worse than it really was.And they over reacted! The part about me having to leave was frustration over money.I owe them 10% for using the property.I`ve only sold a small amount in which they got there share from. They aready sold some of what they grew at very low prices and it`s spent already. The rest turned to dust on them because they dryed it to much and now they are broke.I told them I wouldn`t be in a big hurry to sell it at dirt cheep prices and would pay them as it gets sold. They just want to pressure me to get them more money. It`s more of a pay up or get out thing.I`m working on both! But they really don`t trust me to leave before they get there money ether! Well if I get the chance to move first they won`t have any choise! Still going to pay them but don`t think I want to grow here with them again! I don`t like there head games! I almost put my dog down because of there BS! It`s not my fault the market got flooded this year and they don`t know how to dry and cure mmj right! Hell if it had not been for me and a few other growers in the Co-op they wouldn`t have even got a garden in because of there lazy ass attitudes! Good luck to them next year! I been paying my way the whole time! $150 a month for power used. There isn`t even enough power getting out here to run a microwave or AC! I got one light on my mothers and most everything else runs on propane except the floro`lights and the heater fan. They been making money on me the whole time! F%@king greedy lazy ass people!

Glad to hear the dog can stay

Very happy to hear this resolution, people can be real fucks. Animals are much easier to deal with, hope everything(dog related) works out for you two. I would think about having him fixed, shelters will usually do it very cheaply and it does tone/tame down the dog. Hope you find a great new place to live, you sound like the perfect neighbor

You should still take this as a learning experience and take better care of the dog. I couldn't imaging leaving my dogs outside. Bring him inside, he's more needed there than outside anyways. Let there little yapper warn you of someone coming in the driveway. Plus sounds like a bunch of females are running around anyways. One of which is probably in heat if there are sudden problems.

Tobor, I'm not going to get into a pissing contest over which breed is stronger, better, "more loving" (what? really?) or anything like that. I will stand up and say that you cannot make unequivocal statements about something that is nothing of the sort. I guarantee you, seriously guarantee you, that my Ridgeback (yes, they're also known as African lion hounds) can and will keep up with any one and any thing, whether or not she's sick or injured. Interestingly enough, she's never been sick a day in her life, and the only time I've even heard her yelp was when I accidentally stepped on her ear (she was sleeping behind me).

Come on, really? We need to do this over a dog breed? Dogs are great, fantastic, loving, would not exist without humans, and many cannot exist without humans.

I've never seen people keep up with horses, ever. I've seen lots of dogs do it--ALL BREEDS. So, bragging on your dogs keeping up with you hiking made me chuckle.

As for the other about castration and neutering, go try handling an uncut male horse and then go handle a gelding and come back and talk to me about the differences in the animal's behavior, training, and aggression. It's very much the same with dogs. You'll find those that, despite being uncut are completely mellow. And then there are others that are going to murder you the first chance they get, especially if they're not getting sex and they want it. I mean, how cruel is that, to leave your dog uncut but not let it have sex? Even better, try handling an uncut pig (boar) and a cut one. Hoo boy, that'll be fun to watch!

Mr. Castle, you have not met your duty to this dog.

Hell I sleep outside as much as I can weather permitting and when it`s ruff weather my dog sleeps inside by the doorway on a dog bed. But I`m not going to make him into a house dog because he is a working dog! As for having him fixed I think I will, not because of changes to his temperment but, because I don`t want him to breed pups that may or may not find wanted homes. I`m not a dog breeder.

I said the love part was taken out of context. I agree that all dogs give love. I am not an AmStaff person. I am a dog person. I only have had 2 dogs in my adult life. A shepard/huskie mix and an Am Staff. I have been a dog fan all my life. I have read a book or books on every breed. I fancy myself a dog breed expert. Just like we fancy ourselves pot experts.

I am telling you flat out that there is no better all around, durable dog than an AmStaff. Just like if I said there is no better sled puller than a husky or no better racer than a greyhound. Yes there are malamutes and salukis but you get my drift.

It's not like the ridgeback is even in the conversation about all around dogs like a malamute is kind of in the conversation of great sled dogs with the husky. Or a Saluki is kind of close in racing to a greyhound.

It is just like the Olympics. There are athletes that are great in individual events and could win the 100m dash or another that can win the high jump. Then there are the decathlon guys who can't win a gold in an individual event but can win the decathlon because they are very good at everything.

There is only one other dog that is in the conversation of best all around dog. The Airedale terrier, aka The King of Terriers. Field and Stream magazine called it, "the greatest utility dog in the history of the world." President Roosevelt claimed that "An Airedale can do anything any other dog can do and then lick the other dog, if he has to."

An Am Staff and an Airedale can be working dogs, hunting dogs, companion dogs and security dogs. I think what puts the Am Staff at the top is the durability and low maintenance. But it could be the Airedale is the best all around dog and it is at least in the conversation.

Am Staffs have powerful feet and big claws for grip. They can climb trees a little when so inclined. Then when you examine their toes you see they are webbed so they are good swimmers.

Everybody has friends. Some friends you call to go skiing, some you call to go swimming, some you call to go hunting and some you might call if you need some muscle. The Am Staff is the friend that can do anything you want to do. That makes that friend your best friend. It is a special dog.

Lots of people don't think about this stuff. They love their dog. It is their friend. They all have pluses and minuses. However, if you were seriously and scientifically looking for a dog that could be very good in whatever dog related activity you wanted to do there are only a few breeds that make the final list and the top one is probably going to be the Am Staff or the Airedale. Terriers are a tough group to beat as a whole. They can live on a farm and run around on acres or they can stay perfectly fit and happy in an apartment.

So when I say these things it isn't "a load of BS". It was based on my interpretation of documented facts. I think you can clearly see now that I am well versed on just about any dog there is. I wasn't talking out my ass or making stuff up. There are 'all around dogs" and the ridgeback, as wonderful as they probably are because dogs are cool, is not even close to one of them. In fact Dalmatians and Ridgebacks are problematic dogs with numerous health issues, they are stubborn, ridgebacks are below average intelligence, they need to be walked or ran for 4-5 miles a day at minimum and they have a high incidence of deafness.

The AM Staff is ranked in the intelligence group that obeys first command 70% of the time. The ridgeback obeys first command 50% of the time. The Am Staff needs 15-25 repetitions to learn a new command. A ridgeback needs 25-40 repetitions to learn the same command.

We don't have to do anything. But if you want to learn more about dogs I am a good resource. I am not a load of BS I am a wealth of dog information.
