Topping the plant is a choice you need to decide. If it fits your objective, I would top it. I wait until mine get to the 6th node and top it at the 5th.

I don't recall how many bottles are in FFs nute line. I couldnt tell you if you need cal mag without seeing if it's in the line up. With hydro nutes it seems you need the complete line or else there is some crucial components missing somewhere.

My bad. I read that reference pic just now. Has cal mag. Then the bad spot on the roots and eliminating it should be your focus. I would follow the plan smokey laid down. Kill that brown shit ASAP.

I have been using the Hygroben. It says 3-7mL/Gallon Weekly. I then added FoxFarm as well.

20mL Hygroben directly into the water, mix and then after 5 minutes I take a cup and dip out that water to pour through the net cup. I did this for 5 minutes or so.
I think I did not use enough Hygroben. I will apply 30mL through the net pot with the existing water this evening. I have been just assuming there is 3 gallons in this 5 gallon bucket but that may be low.

I also switched to 18/6 light schedule. The temp dropped here on the east coast where I am at for the first time. This has a noticeable affect on the leaves. The water is at 73* F. The room is about 70*

PPM is at 800.
PH is at 6.1
It has a EC reading, not sure what that is. It says 1525 for the EC reading.

I would say you have some slime of sorts suffocating your roots.

As you can see from my posts I run live , so I would massage and wash that chit off.
And then use a bacteria to fight it.
Pouring my bacteria through my net pot.

Same would apply if you choose kill instead, I would then add my , bleach, pool shock, h202 into water and then apply as to not overdo .
Like mix your nutes and kill in your pail then switch pail.
Dip a Dixie cup in mixed up pail and pour a couple through the pot to help kill.

Were as I could dip my cup then add Hygroben in a much stronger solution pouring through my cup without harm.

Hope that’s not confusing.

Enjoy

It feels like the problem has got worse. I have been using Hygroben but this morning I checked and there was a lot more brown slime on the roots. It may be the bucket needs to be cleaned out completely.

I got some Hydrogen Peroxide 3%. I put in a cup (big measuring cup) 100mL and then added 200mL water. I dunked the roots as much as I could in this solution and got rid of much of the rot as possible. Hard to do without taking it completely out which I rather not do. I massaged with my fingers but roots tend to come off and I just really hate fumbling around with the roots.

I ran some through the pot as well to try and get at that base.

I will have to update in a few days to see what it looks like compared to the photo below. Apologies for the crap on the counter. I had to bring it to my bathroom.

How big is your system? What temp is your res? More importantly @Smokey0418 what ratios would you administer your kill formula of shock (also what ingredients in the shock you prefer, hypochlorite or trichlor) bleach and h202?

I suggest you follow his suggestion on killing the slime and stop playing with it. Then use the bacteria to prevent rather than combat. That's what I would do.

imho I don’t find slime or this issue on my buckets .
Some of the roots look good , I would gently massage roots and wash that crap off
Using peroxide wpuld kill some of the bacteria but I don’t think all.

Then back into nutes with the Hygroben.

Are you cooling your water at all and if not any idea the temperature and then how much Hygroben are you using?

40 gallons. I chill my totes to 68-69 I think it is.
I run live using Hygroben and would run on the lower side of there recommended amount, about 1ml/l
If I wasn’t chilling I would be running at least 2ml/l .

I keep the temps around 71-73 F. Although currently they are 77 because I just changed the water. The system is 5 Gallon DWC.
I spent the morning cleaning everything. I bought another 5 gallon bucket. Filled it with water. Ran the rest of my H202 through the pot. Cleaned the roots as best as possible. I pruned away a small portion of the roots that just have not seem to improved at all.

I cleaned the DWC bucket. Added new water, new Hygroben and FoxFarm.
Hygroben - 10mL Total
FoxFarm for Veg Growth - 48mL Total

I will have to keep an eye on it.

I would like to know more about the foxfarm.

I can only assume, Ammonia based and nothing organic period?

The Hygroben , it’s min 3.8ml per gallon and that’s if you control your temps .
If you’re not chilling I would recommend the higher end.

If you just cleaned yesterday and dosed at 50%.
And that’s what your roots look like.
I see Hygroben working on those pure white ends , fighting whatever is growing overnight.
What could be growing that rapidly, yesterday it was clean.
Umm back to the fertilizer.
What’s that stuff.

The last Pic was from before I cleaned. I will post an update later in the weekend to see how it looks.

This plant ultimately died, but not to worry. I already have a 2nd one growing, using the knowledge I now posses. It is a Blue Dream AutoFlower. In the 5 Gallon setup I have. Posting some pictures. It is starting to flower.

I would say the biggest issue I have faced is with heat. It is a pain to keep the water cool on hot days without a chiller and can lead to root/health issues. I have been adding bottles of ice a few times a day, almost every day. Otherwise, it has been pretty straight forward.
