Question about mini-res size

I'm putting together my shopping list, and realize I don't know what size mini-res' I want to get. I know DD was recommending 60 liter (bout 16 gal), but is that the size of the actual container or the amount of solution it should be holding when filled to the plants root level???

Can any of you MPB'ers share about how much nutrient solution you've got bubbling in your bins?

Also, the UC system's come in 8 and 13 gallon; again, is that the size of each site?

DD's bins are 60l, but hold less nutrient solution as you need to leave some room for the net pot, so it will hold about 1/2-2/3 of the advertised ammount in nutrient solution depending on your net pot and the height of the bin.
