Are the bud areas manually put through the screen or do they find their way on their own?

It is best to spread them out manually. Open the plant up much as possible to get more light to the budsites. The whole point of a Scrog is to have a short wide plant. You can use 2 screens. One lower one, Another on top of that to even wider the area.

Smokey is right. You pretty much mold the plant how you want it and place the budsite where you want them. Do it as they are growing until you fill the whole screen or you feel you're ready to flower. Marijuana plants love to be manipulated, well most of them lol
