Questions about photoperiods vs auto.

Autos are for amateurs. the auto is crossed with a non cannabis plant. So it will be less potent.

As far as moving to photos you will usually get a better yield. But most definitely get a better quality. Especially if you get a super nice pheno. It's all about the hunt in finding the best genetic. That fits you.

You can veg a plant on 18 6 for 1 week 2 week 3 week how ever long you like. The longer the veg the bigger the fruits. You can top the plant over and over to prevent it from getting tall.

You also just have to flip to 12 12 when you are satisfied with your hight. The plant usually doubles the size when you flip it. Sometimes triples the size. But then again it depends on the genetics and if it is indica dominant or sativa dominant.

Just to clarify ruderalis is cannabis, just a version that has evolved to flower in extremes northern climates that do not get down to 12/12 day lengths. They do have some very potent autos on the market now but for someone who wants complete control over their grow, would want to go with Photos so you can control height, canopy size, etc. ruderalis origionally was a low THC strain but has been bred to higher content over the past few years.

Just to clarify rudiallis is cannabis, just a version that has evolved to flower in extremes northern climates that do not get down to 12/12 day lengths. They do have some very potent autos on the market now but for someone who wants complete control over their grow, would want to go with Photos so you can control height, canopy size, etc. rudiallis origionally was a low THC strain but has been bred to higher content over the past few years.

Thank you for posting this. There are a few applications for autos imo. Quick roi, space constraints and time. I never really understood when I see people say rudiallis is non cannabis…….it 100% is. It’s just a geographical anomaly that caused that strain in first place, imo it’s just another reason cannabis is rad. It’s such a dynamic plant. Photos all day tho, I like doing what I want to. If the loot is getting thin, auto run, I have 27% auto genetics here, it’s nice, just too small.

i have about a 4 ft max on height and that's pushing it. i still have a ton of auto seeds but after they start to get low i think i will give it a try. just worried about the height.

You might want to look at Northern Scrogger's stuff on YouTube. Any variety can be kept low with training.

There's use for autos, not for me but definitely for some growers. One of the processors here in Michigan got their growing license late so the only way to save the season was to plant 1000 auto-fem seeds. Thanks to that a lot of people have a job for the season.

I think most people that grow autos do so because they just can't bear the thought of the flowering period taking a couple weeks longer for a photo plant.

There are a handful of trimming & training methods to keep a photo plant's height to a minimum.

The autos I've grown have taken just as long once they hit flower as photos do when They hit their flower.

The reason I continue to grow some autos every year is because I'm growing outdoors and have limited drying areas so to save space I like to. Be able to. Harvest a few plants every week or tow for a couple months instead of all my plants at once.

Honestly I use autos for experiments or if I can't find a reg seed or fem seed like for certain strains for example master yoda

That's exactly what I was saying. I first heard about c. Ruderalis in the mid 00's when I was gifted a 90s grow Bible and read it front to back. It wasn't until like
10 years later that I started to hear people actually talking about autos and I knew immediately how they got that trait.

Since Ruderalis naturally do not have any significant amounts of thc it was gonna take alot of cross breeding and back crossing before breeders had successfully isolated the autoflower trait while retaining the rest of the indica/sativa genetics. But now that there are several auto strains that have successfully done that the thc lvls should be able to basically catch up to other hybrids through More cross Breeding. The autoflower trait has only been messed with for a relatively short period of time, it's really kinda impressive how fast they were able to isolate the auto trait from the rest of the ruderalis Genetics.

Alot of people tried autos when lowryder first came out and haven't given them another chance since so they are operating on outdated info.

Low Ryder is literally a dwarf strain too, things have changed a lot since then…..Always do your own studies!

Exactly it has heavy ruderalis genetics, which is why I used that one for an example well that and it was basically the first wide spread auto strain

I am interested in growing some photo, but am concerned about how big they get. I have read several posts on here saying you can make them flip pretty much whenever you want. So could I grow them to only about 3 feet and still have a decent harvest like with autos? Or am I better off sticking with the autos? If i did what would be the advantage over the autos?

Ditch the autos.

Go with a pure indica photoperiod. Indicas are shorter and bushier, easier to grow indoors and have a shorter flowering time.
