Hello concentrators!
So I did a single wash of some sugar leaf from my last harvest using 91% ISO. I placed my material in a clean mason jar and covered with room temp ISO. Mildly agitated this for roughly 30 second and ran through a single coffee filter into a clean pyrex dish. I purged this container in a closed, dark closet at ~50% RH and 70 degrees F for roughly 48 hours to ensure complete evaporation. I scraped the oil up (not much of an oil, more of a amber colored powder), and placed this in an old container I had received some wax in. Allowed this to cure for a few days before sampling or gifting out.
My issue is, when used either via a g pen or on screens on a standard bowl for a water pipe, the hit is "hot" and the after taste is similar to how detergent smells. I'm sure there was no residue in the jar nor the Pyrex dish, so I am coming to the more experienced people here to see if they've come across this before. I don't really have an issue with it but I gifted some to a friend and she seemed to not be a big fan. I intend on running more product here soon and want to ensure I don't wind up with the same results.
The plants were not sprayed except early in their youth, long before flowering was even triggered and they were flushed for a week prior. No buds were used, simply sugar leaf and larf.
The major concern is what is the likelihood of the ISO having somehow removed residue I could not visually see when I cleaned the dishes used and deposited this residue in my final product? Is this a viable concern or should I be more so leaning that it is potentially genetically related to some unexpressed hidden flavenoids in the starting material? The buds are very pungent but no hint of detergent anywhere in their profile, both in smell and taste when smoked.
Thanks for reading!
