Use this forum before you start, rebuild, expand, or change a grow. This is the place to compare plans, spot weak links, and get feedback before money, time, or plants are committed.

1. What belongs in this forum

Good topics for The Planning Stages include:

• Pre-grow planning: goals, limits, budget, space, timing, and expected difficulty.
• Tent, room, greenhouse, or outdoor layout planning before buying or building.
• “Here is my plan — what am I missing?” threads.
• Plant count, container size, canopy strategy, veg-time, and harvest-schedule planning.
• Seed vs. clone, photoperiod vs. autoflower, mother plants, clones, and strain-selection planning.
• Energy use, heat, humidity, water source, odor control, and workflow planning.
• Basic equipment-list checks before purchase.
• Preventive planning: cleanliness, quarantine, pest monitoring, backup parts, and emergency supplies.

This forum is best for planning decisions, not urgent diagnosis.

2. Post in the right place

Before starting a thread, check whether your topic belongs in a more specific section:

• Cannabis Infirmary — sick plants, deficiencies, pests, disease, urgent “what is wrong with my plant?” threads.
• Basic Growing Information — beginner basics, first-grow questions, watering basics, pH basics, and simple “is this normal?” questions.
• General Indoor Growing — day-to-day indoor grow questions once the grow is already running.
• General Outdoor Growing — outdoor grows, seasonal timing, weather, pests, and outdoor site questions.
• Growroom Design & Setup — room builds, ventilation, cooling, heating, humidity control, odor control, and electrical planning.
• L.E.D Grow Lights — LED fixture choice, dimming, coverage, distance, PPFD/DLI, and spectrum questions.
• Hydroponics — DWC, RDWC, aero, reservoirs, water temperature, pumps, stones, sterile/live systems, and root-zone questions.
• Coco Coir — coco watering, runoff, EC, pH, fertigation, calcium/magnesium issues, and salt buildup.

If your thread fits more than one section, post where the main question belongs. Staff may move it if another forum is a better fit.

3. Search before posting

Try a few simple searches first. Useful search terms include:

If you find an old thread that is close but not exactly your situation, start a fresh thread and link the older thread for context.

4. Use clear thread titles

Specific titles get better answers.

Good examples:

Avoid vague titles like:

5. Copy/paste grow-plan template

When asking for feedback, copy this into your post and fill in as much as you can.

Thread title:

Main goal:
Yield, quality, learning, low-maintenance, budget, medical supply, mother plants, perpetual harvest, outdoor season, etc.

6. Planning checklist before you start

Before spending money or popping seeds, check the basics:

• Know your local laws and plant-count limits.
• Plan the environment before blaming nutrients later.
• Make sure the light, space, ventilation, and heat load match.
• Leave room to work around the plants.
• Budget for meters, calibration solution, timers, fans, ducting, spare parts, and basic cleanup supplies.
• Think about odor, noise, heat, humidity, drainage, and water access before the grow starts.
• Do not overload outlets, power strips, or extension cords. Get qualified help for electrical questions.
• Have a simple pest-prevention and cleanliness plan before plants arrive.
• Inspect or quarantine incoming clones.
• Take baseline notes and photos from the start.

7. Archived reference threads

These older threads are no longer stickied, but they are still useful as archived community discussions. Read the full discussion and check the dates before relying on older advice. Product recommendations, safety assumptions, labels, and laws may have changed.
