As we all know, it ain't about the quality of the weed that dictates the prices, everyone's got dank weed. It's the fact that there is a dispensary on every corner now, and they all have crazy sales to compete with one another. I'd probably give up the game entirely myself if I didn't build out this room, have a pro electrician wire it for 8000w, and invest in great LED bars. Since it's there, may as well keep going...

Dig the alliteration? Then we should get along fine. I've been a regular at invalid.com for the last 15 years. I joined because I wanted to gtfo of the corporate world, and grow cannabis for a living. Which I ended up doing quite successfully. I turned the office of my small apartment into my grow room. It seemed tailor made for growing, with a locking door and 2 windows in 6.5ftx8ftx10ft room. I started off in RDWC, but after a couple of years I switched to a sog of four 3x2 trays under 1600w of HPS in 2 air-cooled magnum XXL reflectors. Also had a small DYI two shelf mom tent in a corner with an aero cloner underneath. I harvested 11 ounces every 2 weeks, and had the best weed around before legalization. I sold it all to a small collective of friends, musicians and DJs for $350-$480 an ounce. I made about 100k per year off that little room. I'm also a professional musician. I bought a lot of cool toys and instruments, set up a home studio with great gear, and took some nice trips, but I also managed to save a nice cash nest egg. I got tired of life in the big city, so I decided to purchase a nice house outright for cash right across the line of a neighboring state, where the property and cost of living are much more affordable. Since the majority of my gigs are in said big city, I had to stay close in order to drive there and back easily. Growing is illegal in my current state, just as it was in the big city until recently, so I switched from a SOG in pots of media to a flowering area of 3 aero/nft systems I built myself. I can no longer afford to throw out hot trash here (root balls of rockwool, perlite, vermiculite), so having no grow media is better. I simply burn the dried plant material in the fire pit at night. Since prices took a shit, I now sell ounces for anywhere between $80-$180. Fortunately, my music business grew to the point where it pays all the bills. So I only work a couple days per week, usually on the weekends. Kinda semi-retired. Since the demise of rollitup, I'm just looking for a new place to hang out and interact with cool peeps from time to time. TLDR, I know. Thanks for reading, look forward to meeting you guys...

I just moved from Chicago, right outside of it now. Chicago dispensaries have really great weed, and with sales it can be as low as $200 an oz. I can't charge anywhere near that and get rid of all I grow, save for a few that just can't/won't go to a dispensary. Everyone's excited about $80 ounces, much less excited about $120 around here. Where are you located? Best of luck with the build.

I’m in NorCal. Been spoiled with great weed for many years now lol. If you want a top shelf ounce at some the stores it can cost you for sure. But they have these 100$ ounces of littles and what not. It’s ok for 100 bucks but the taxes are freaking outrageous! And again I don’t trust them not spraying shit on them and being honest about it. Also the “testing” in California and I’m sure the rest of the us is absolute bullshit so who knows what all you are consuming while being lied too. O had a buddy who would trade for things. Cut his loses but had everything he needed from firewood to dogfood : )

I just ground up the rest of my bud and made brownies. The new dispensary sells 1/2 oz's for 39. It's better than what I grew. It would be tough to compete with those kind of operations.

Wow. Yeah, when I can't sell it for $50 oz., I think I'll quit and just buy from them, too. I only smoke about an ounce a month, so it would be cheaper to shut down and just buy at that point. So glad I took advantage of the gold rush while it lasted. Perhaps I'll just convert the room to a meth lab, lol...

I'm still going to grow. I figure it costs me less than 10 dollars an ounce, I just need to make sure I don't waste any time on mediocre weed. This last batch I had poor drying and curing conditions so most of it was meh. The brownies are excellent though.

Yeah, that perpetual sog was a blast. Definitely maxed out the yield in that tiny room. Very easy, too, except potting 22 clones every 2 weeks, and all the cleaning and trimming that went with it. It was a grind harvesting that often, though. It was basically working a part time job every other week. I now harvest every 3 weeks with the perpetual aero grow, that extra week off is a godsend.
