buy hanna and only HANNA and choose the water proof ones because they dont break. the non water proof is the same computerchips... they just break... buy a ph meter and a tds meter do not buy a combo.... they will break. make sure to all ways leave your PH METER IN WATER. THIS MEANS THE ELECTRODES ARE ALWAYS UNDER WATER AND NOT DISTILLED NEVER PH distilled water it is bad shit. most people dont like digital ph testers is because they are not educated on the fact it needs calibrated every month and must be in water all the time... thats why it has a cap so you can put a spunge in it ...a tds meter can be calibrated every 6-8 months without drastic changes . just keep it clean.

coco uptake is anywhere from 5.6-6.3 but somewhere in the middle is always nice

have fun and dont be influenced in buying bad shit

When storing your electrode, you have these 3 options:
1. Best: Electrode Storage Solution
2. Better: 4.0 Calibration Solution
3. Good: Tap Water with a pinch of salt

Thanks for the replies about the instruments guys. PH is really what I'm interested in. I haven't used my PPM pen since I dropped it in the water a few times, a few months ago.
Not even sure why i'm trusting my PH pen anymore, I haven't calibrated it in months, it has gunk all over it, and it takes a few seconds of swirling it in the solution before the real(?) PH number even pops up.
Strips sound like the way to go it sounds like.
The real reason I wanted a PH probe was so because of this thread (will edit in after I search for it)

Do yourself a favor and get a digital ph meter. Hanna is about $30 $35 bucks.

Keep your ph about 5.5 to 6.2. My plants like 5.5-5.9

Keep your nutes simple and your coco moist. I use Maxibllom and Koolbloom.

Enjoy the results!

How about 7.0 Calibration Solution? Furthermore, Is it "wrong" to calibrate the meter with 7.0 solution when using coco?

I like using either the 4.0 (acidic, keeps things a bit cleaner) or cleaning solution for storing my probe. So, it's not "wrong" and the media you're measuring has not a thing to do with it. Also, being anal the way I am, I always use two-point calibration. Always.

I cannot imagine how media really plays any role in deciding what meters to use. EC is EC is EC, whether you're feeding hydro, hempy, soil, coco, whatever. And pH is pH is pH is pH and the only reason it changes is because of the media, the meter won't know there's a difference.

Depending on the quality of tap water, I personally would be concerned with using tap + NaCl if the tap has high alkalinity because that means it's high in dissolved mineral content. So, I would go with RO + NaCl, assuming I didn't have 4.01 calibration solution.

This seems to be turning into to who's a better coco grower :giggle:talking

I started out with oakaton PH meter. Good but had to calibrate all the time. I have had my Bluelab for quite some time and will never roll with anything different. PH pen was .1 off on the 7 and strait on on the 4 after bout 7 months sitting in my closet. Never have to calibrate the TDS Pen. I had a truncheon for a long time and gifted it to a friend after I got the combo meter.

Yep Sea I use the bulb end of a dropper with the 4 solution for my ph probe. I broke my little nifty cap on the Bluelab lol.
