Please don't take this the wrong way but I had skunk weed back in the 90's and it wasn't special to me. My question is is it flavorful or is it the effectsI have questions just out of ignorance.
Looking good! Hey shit happens. Had 2 power outages already during this crop, one for 4 hours+ with a full clone machine.Alright fellas I finally got an update. Most of these plants are Burnout Stinkers Skunk by Strayfox however I have one plant in here thats a skunky pheno of Oreoz that I was gifted from a friend here on THC Farmer. I just moved them into my 4x4 tent and Im about to flip them to 12/12 soon. So far the stem rubs on all of them smell very potent and stinky! It took absolutely forever to veg these I had my LUX dialed in perfectly in my 2x4 veg tent however somehow the dimmer switch on my LED light got turned on. I have absolutely no idea how this happened I think during one of my waterings I must have accidentally bumped the dimmer switch on. So basically I have been watching these things grow super slow for months and the whole time I was thinking it must be the genetics. When in fact my light intensity got switched to half power and I didn't even know it LOL . That explains it. Oh well you live and learn. Good news is I finally caught the mistake and turned the light intensity back to normal. Overall they are looking good now and catching up...

Some of it is nostalgia. It was everywhere back then and it seemed to just disappear. There were a few different types of skunks going around, but what most of us remember was very flavorful and pronounced. The taste and smell just lingered. Very strong buzz and nice effects. Just an all around heavy flavor and smell as opposed to fruity. Please don't take this the wrong way but I had skunk weed back in the 90's and it wasn't special to me. Yep this is true I read a few articles about VSCs and it appears that the sulfur element is crucial for maximizing skunky terpenes. I am thinking about trying some Mr. Fulvic during this flower run on my skunk plants. Never used it before but heard great things. I gotta add that Sulfur this timeNot sure if this linked was posted yet but there's some decent info here:
Why cannabis smells skunky
As cannabis is legalized in more areas, it has become increasingly popular as a medicinal and recreational drug. This plant produces a pungent, skunk-like odor that is pleasing to some but repulsive to others. Now, researchers have discovered a new family of prenylated volatile sulfur compounds...www.sciencedaily.com
"Five of the VSCs contained the prenyl functional group and had skunk-like or sulfuric aromas.
One compound in particular, 3-methyl-2-butene-1-thiol, referred to as VSC3, was the most abundant VSC in the cultivars that the panel reported to be most pungent.
This compound has previously been implicated in the flavor and aroma of "skunked beer" -- beer that goes bad after being exposed to UV light."
Finally, in greenhouse experiments, the researchers determined that the prenylated VSCs increased significantly toward the end of the flowering stage of cannabis growth, reached a maximum during curing and then dropped substantially after 10 days of storage."
It is primarily the nostalgia of the smell. Super loud terpenes that would fill the whole room when you opened the jar. The smoke would linger and you could smell it half way down the block when someone fired up a joint. In a way skunk bud was like a rebel thing you couldn't hide the smell and the smoke was like a giant middle finger to the manPlease don't take this the wrong way but I had skunk weed back in the 90's and it wasn't special to me. Exactly. Sulfur is a secondary nutrient like Cal/Mag but can and should be boosted for VSCs.Yep this is true I read a few articles about VSCs and it appears that the sulfur element is crucial for maximizing skunky terpenes. That’s exactly how I remember it happening! The skunk was stinky magic, even in Britain then and then it just disappeared because too many people were getting busted for it(remember,it’s still illegal over here,3-5 years for a good size grow is common including stealing electricity which I don’t get!Mine only costs just over £300 to do so it’s just greed)all the time! That’s when the not so stinky Stardawg and the Haze comes into their own!Big yields and not too stinky!Perfect for undercover grows, which is needed over here so it is understandable!Thats what I reckon happened over here, definitely!!!Exactly. The smell was getting everyone busted so they just stopped growing it and started crossing and breeding the fruity stuff instead. The way I see it the more "Pure bred" the skunky pungent vintage varieties the better. Meaning they are not crossed with any of the modern stuff. I figure if i use the most pure bred stock for breeding then it will increase my odds of finding an Ester Alcohol phenotypes. I want that loud and rude boarder-line offensive experience.
Like previously mentioned its a time machine, i dont know about you, but those are pretty rare. I saw too many drug band concerts in the mid 90s through early 00s. Usually, but not everytime, through haze and smells of normal kind bud, there would be one that stood out enough to make you turn your huge pupilled head around and look for the source. Most times, those were skunk phenos, or nasty ogs. FwiwPlease don't take this the wrong way but I had skunk weed back in the 90's and it wasn't special to me. Exactly bro. The skunk bud at the concerts from back in the day really stand out in my memory too.Sometimes it would be so dank, you'd tap your buddy on the shoulder and holy shit! You smell that!
LOL too funny
Right on. Looking good!Going in the dirt tomorrow.
Stem rub giving off typical odors, but there is a very deep funk there. Not sweet. Certainly not RKS or anything too foul, but very skunky.
