I think the biggest thing that killed it off was prohibition. And the reason for that is because it was impossible to hide or grow incognito without everyone in a 50 mile radius knowing what you were doing indoors or out. This was before carbon scrubbers really got popular. My guess is folks just got creeped out and didn’t feel like it was worth the risk. But then again that’s sheer speculation on my part.

Not just speculation many many grows were discovered by odors outdoors growers picked easy to reach locations not wise to maintain security remember three can keep a secret if two are dead!

Yep. Straight up some super fire:
( SSSC skunk #1 x original pnw northern lights #5) x (pre 95 og Kush x joes personal cut of Romulan) x (Neviles original haze x chocolate Thai) x (Colombian gold x original Oaxacan gold) x Panama red. His uncles mothers cousins boyfriend has kept these cuts alive since 1969. It’s amazing what you can be born into

Hey guys, yea the old road kill skunk was killer.Ithink it was around 83 ish, if i remember correctly, it was the first "wow" strain to enter the game.

Before that skunk, it was the mexican brick weed, then panama red, then the colombian and or acapulco gold, red, blond or black hash and the temple balls,
Oh yea of course "thai stick" 10.00 a stick, what i was selling them for back in high school....

Then i think the skunk entered the picture.....
Damn, that shit didnt smell like skunk, it was skunk!
I think reeferman offered some nice examples in seed form if i remember

But yea, it had to go, the odor was too damn dangerous,, grew out a few super skunks that came close.....
But not really....

At the early dead shows, way before sour diesel, heck ,that
Was one memorable stink....

And for anyone who wants to get as close to the skunk odor experience in nature, without going to a outdoor cannabis farm, then find yourself some of this plant, found in the tropics "dolipran" smells almost exactly like the original roadkill skunk!

If anyone had real skunk they would be bought out and bigger than cookie fam. I really don’t believe that anyone has a good seed version of skunk, we have some things close but not quite there, yet

Believe "The Plug" has some $500.00 a pack !!! you are right doubt it they are "pure" strains all I ever see are hybrids which probably came from the "real" thing but many years of breeding. check out "Kiwik seeds" for "pure" lance strains (many hash strains, ect) but of all the companies I know Kiwik has the best landrance strain (true) World Of Seeds comes in second

If someone had the real thing I would pay that but it’s highly unlikely. There are enough strains on the market that are close enough, I guess. The sour diesel when grown correctly and lemon g crosses seem to be the closest thing to me. Obviously chem and ogs are in the ballpark too and may be just what we have to settle with.

I have been in big rooms growing skunk and chem and as dank as chemdog is the skunk room was far more smelly. So much more...

We moved chem as a choice because of the smell back then. Nothing is like the old skunk.

I completely agree with you. That’s why I say we have stuff close but not all the way there. Is your old skunk gone? No seeds or one offs anywhere?

Totally agree
When i first encountered the chems and diesels , i was reacting by tellling people, " hey the good skunk is back" then blank stares like huh? What skunk ? You mean island sweet skunk ? No, i mean roadkill......
Im 60 years old now, that story is from 20 years ago, and i was talking to 30 year olds......
There wasnt a huge window of opportunity before the roadkill kind of dissapeared around new york city
