We now return you back to your regularly scheduled program.....

Anyhow, nothing has changed with the fan leaves. Still green and loving the sun - no new growth. I will take some pics this weekend and post.

I did get a small vial of BAP in the mail. Apparently BAP is the synthetic of cytokinins which allow plant cells to act like stem cells and grow into other parts. Google BAP to learn more about it. It's not water soluble, so I need to heat up 1 tablespoon of 91% iso alcohol with a drop of baby shampoo in it to dissolve 1/8 of a teaspoon of BAP. Then add that to 2.5 quarts of water to make a foliar spray that is 120ppm. I plan to use a q-tip to swab that onto the two that I tried the coconut water on.

I flipped the Lazy Dog mother plant two weeks ago (see my newbie thread for an update on that), and am thinking of putting two of the fan leaves in the bloom room.

Any advice or comments are welcome.

Here's how the fan leaves look today. It appears that the stem is just getting thicker. Also, they now have roots that are beginning to protrude out the bottom holes. Why would such a small plant need so many roots?

It's getting ready to shock us all. Those roots are building for a burst upwards!

Geologic - to answer your question, yes. Two of the fan leaves have just been given ph'd water w/nutes those are my controls. The other two have been given diluted coconut water w/nutes. As was previously stated the thinking is that the coconut water has cytokinins in it that promote new growth.

I will be discontinuing the coconut water and replacing it with the BAP since they are essentially the same. I am also thinking of placing one control and one BAP in the bloom room with the Lazy Dog mother to see if the 12/12 light will perhaps get them to add branches - or at least some nuggets. The other two I will leave in my grow room.

I applied the BAP this afternoon to the stems of the two fan leaves. Not sure how often it's supposed to be applied. Here is the link to the webpage where I bought it.

I liked someone's earlier post suggesting that I make a small slice in the stem to try to encourage some activity. I wonder if a pin prick would suffice. I don't want to damage the stem too much. But perhaps a pin prick would allow the BAP to penetrate deeper? Has anyone ever used plant hormones to encourage growth?

I found another current thread that discusses using plant hormones. I posted a question to the author about using BAP. He/she said to add GA3 (another plant hormone) to my BAP to help encourage the fan leafs to put out new growth.

This is getting complicated haha

But its interesting though, dont give up lol. Im rooting for it. If it doesnt grow a shoot i wonder if the leaf just gets bigger and bigger. Like a 4ft round leaf lol.

The hormones are about $15 for 10 grams. The instructions have you use very little (1/8 of a teaspoon ) in 3 gallons of water.

I wear gloves and eye protection to keep any of it from splashing on me...plus I applied it with a q-tip.
