Bottom heat is a big thing for cuts, now domes i dont use anymore because it didnt work for me but i still mist (neem and b1) them everyday with a fan on low and my rate is almost 100% , rooting hormones, coco, and small doses of humbolts roots

Hey Waayne,
can you explain your bottom heat setup for your cloning in more detail? I see that the heating mat is in some sort of cage. Is that a pre-made item? Do you use a thermostat on it?

Oh yeah, and your clones look great of course.

Thanks,

Those are some old heat mats from the early 90's
I believe I got them from Diamond

The clone trays sit about 1/2" above the mats
I insert the thermostat controller probe between the heat mats and trays so the thermostat control box gets an accurate reading

I plug the heat mats into the thermostat control box which is set to 75 degrees......

Ah, Diamond Supply. I remember that company from back then. I wonder if a similar unit is still available? I will have to keep my eye out on that one. Thanks for providing more detail on your clone setup.

I use the Mondi domes. I dry dome them (no spraying before the dome goes on) which seems to help with acclimation when the domes are removed. After I take clones I dome 'em up, 7 days later I open one of the vents, a day later I open the second vent (unless they're kushes which seem to take a bit longer to root and I have a higher success rate with only one vent opened), then I check them daily to remove the rooted clones as needed. Depending on the age/health of my mothers I have a 98-100% success rate with this method. I've taken 50-200 clones a week this way for just under a year now and it works great for me.

I agree with waayne, undomed clones seem to take much longer to root, 7-10 days longer for me.

Goddamn, nigga! That's some cloning going on there!

Between Waayne and you, there is some solid credibility to your guy's findings.

Awesome!

For me it was always how moist the soil/rockwool was. I would go back and forth using a dome and without. If I did it without the dome I just made sure to have to water them more often, but it still works either way. I averaged between 60-80% success. I used to get a little stressed out checking the clones every day and babysitting the humidity and such.

then..

I made a homemade aero cloner and now its stoopid easy. I just hack off a tip and put it in the cloner with tap water. I just put them in a cloner and don't check them for a week. 100% all the time, I have never lost a clone yet.

as long as i got my heat mat under my tray my cheese clones root in 7 days dome or no dome. of course this is for this strain. i use a dome for smaller cuts but for large cuts i never use the dome anymore but i always use a heat mat no matter what.
i love all the information im getting from this thread. im so impressed by alot of growers on here. u growers are no joke. i see that this site has some of the best marijuana growers/breeders in the world...
peace yall

I used to have great success with clones. But I tell ya the last 3-4 batches I took a pounding on. I never used a dome in the past just oasis cubes soaked in 5.8 clonex solution. I dip the cutting in either Olivias Gel or vita root. Poke em in the cubes and leave a little water in the tray put the tray on a heating mat and I would have roots every time in 7-10 days. I'm gettin killed the last few rounds. I mean I'm waiting for a month and still losing half or better of the cuttings I took. The only thing that changed was my water source. So I got a new RO and went to using a dome. I got a tray of 66 I cut two weeks ago and another tray of 66 I cut yesterday. Both with domes and both on heating pads. Hopefully I'll have roots soon. Hopefully the problem was the water source because I used to have roots in 14 days or less always.

Wayne would you mind telling us the formula you use for your clones with the GH nutes? I've been interested in tying this for a little while. -SE

either heat mat too hot or mothers are tired and old.

I use jiffy pellets, #2 rooting powder, a clean razor, mondi tray/dome. I lay small bamboo stakes between the mat and the tray to avoid temps getting too hot. I then start opening and closing the dome after the 3rd day gradually increasing their wilt resistance, always making sure they're wet. I usually get 95-100% success rate.

Although i've just switched to a pre made rooting pad with a 102 openings, its kinda like the green styrofoam stuff used for flower arranging. I'll be making the switch permanently as the two trays i've cut so far using this new stuff have been 100%. They offer a lot less resistance when plugging than rockwool which i found to be a problem with smaller cuttings, which often would break or not penetrate into the rockwool.

n i def agree with u kes, great knowledge always gettin dropped!

Steel Erection I mix 1/4 tsp of
Micro, Grow, and Bloom per gallon of
RO or Distilled H20
I always use RO or Distilled, I never use tap water until after they root.

I insert a small aquarium thermometer
into a rockwool cube in each tray to have an accurate temperature reading of the cubes
With a heat mat and a temperature controller I try to keep the cubes a constant 77 degrees

make sure the cubes dry down some periodically and aren't soggy from sitting in water or nutrient solution all the time....oxygen is vital for healthy roots.......

hey KEY:hi
when use a DOME to root and once they show roots "decent amount" you need to harden them off, if you just take them out and put to soil they will wilt and die rather quickly....

to harden them off just place a CLEAR PLASTIC cup over your cuts and a couple times aday remove the cup and once they STAY upright your ready to roll...

umm ya 18days is a long tine to wait for roots but i have had a strain take that long before..
peace:hi

Never used a humidity dome, hell I dont even mist them.

I just go with rooting gel
Rooting solution
and in 16 to 18 days I have root porn
Done, no need to over think it
You think that will work with1inchx1inch rockwool?

No humidity dome, no gloves or sterilizing and no special techniques or other crap. Just cut with scissors dip in clonex and plunk it straight into the one gallon coco pot I'll be using and feed with full strength nutrients from the get go. 100% success and new growth in three weeks.
