Roots are getting messy, can I trim them?

My roots in my aeroponic system are getting out of control and blocking the irrigation inside. Can I trim them up and guide them to wrap around each basket? Would cutting inches off them hurt the plant? Or is it just like topping and would make them bushier roots? I’m pretty sure the brown color is just stain from the nutes.

Wouldnt then all of the roots be brown?

You can trim them it will cause a small stress but nothing serious.but they will grow back again...
