ive seen this issue many times discussed, one thread had a list of plants that put out very little smell. I would vent out your chimney if at all possible.Probably not feasible if your a renter or if fireplace is still being used.

Buy some dryer sheets and zip tie or rubber band them over the exit of your exhaust. It will smell like you are doing laundry all the time, I would put it in that chimney doohickey that you have, just make sure you aren’t running that fireplace. You’ll need to change out those sheets often but they’ll last and won’t break the bank. The crockpot warmer idea is also a good one. My lady bought that was sugar cookies. One Halloween some little girl said can I tell you something? Followed up with your house is the best smelling house ever!😂 . In terms of the vinegar keep in mind the charcoal filter is going to soak up the smell. I was using yeast for co2. Now that exhaust has a yeast like/ baking bread smell. With that being said I bought the filter paranoid that everyone could smell it outside, it never went away. Eventually I realized it wasn’t my plants. It was the house one block over from me directly inline. 🤣. I suspected it was that house. They confirmed it when I went for a walk and they had 30-40 pots in the front of the house ranging from 1-20 gallons.

Take a look at ONA filter and blocks they work really well and safe to use around a grow room connects to fan ducting.
Worth a try and cheaper than another carbon filter.

Thanks, I've used these for every grow. They do help and this is a good tip.

I'm still trying to remove that last 5% of odor that's coming through my exhaust... Its very slight, but builds up slowly over time.

If I run a fan (I do this ) in the grow room, it sends the odor away from my cabinet and becomes much harder to detect... Without a fan, the odor lingers right at my exhaust.

I had a buddy who grew in his closet when we were younger and you'd never know it because he had a crock pot sized oil warmer running with rose oil. The whole house smelled like fresh roses. Something like this may be your saving grace. Although I would caution using some essential oils if you have pets. They can be toxic to animals. Another alternative may be a larger air purifier to run along side the carbon filter as they also remove odors. Just throwing some ideas out there.. my old lady doesn't like the smell either and I just started my indoor project ( the space is prepped and my tents are coming this week) 😬 I also will be growing in my basement and have worried about this exact thing. So I've been racking my brain trying to figure out how I'm going to keep the smell down as much as possible without compromising the air quality for the ladies or harming my pets. Good luck brother 🙏

I've been using plug in essential oils, Incense and Turpentine.. Covering the odor is a great tip all, I've made it through 5 grows now and masking the smell was a MUST !

I'll try the rose oil, I know exactly what this is...I use Rose Incense and it is a great scent for masking odor.

Thanks

I may have created that thread (Ive posted often)... Here is my list after much research.

1. Nothern Lights
2. Master Kush
3 Jack Herer
4. Durban Poison
5. White Rhino
6. Green Ninja
7. Epsilon F1
8. Polar Express
9. Wipeout express
10. Bubblegum

I've seen White Widow mentioned, but I tried it and had to stop it early. She smelled strongly in Veg !

Umm.. Most people's grows are odor free. It was shocking but when I moved to a legal state and saw what the hobbyist is smoking on.. No wonder dispos aren't being shut down. Same shit.

You never noticed everyone using these cheap ass Amazon exhaust fans, and never a question about why they aren't strong enough to pull through a filter?

Change your nutes. Use whatever the people in Arizona use lol. Nothing in that state smelled of weed. Whatever grows those tiny little buds with no high.

Maybe so, I'm almost there but I've noticed many mention that a little odor gets by one filter... Its normal even with expensive filters..

I will take your tip though, maybe I'll try Ac Infinity carbon filters, Terrabloom or Phresh...

I own my house and never use the fire place. Problem is you cant leave the "flu" open in winter or your winter heating bill skyrockets. (the smell would come un into my living room)....But the carbon in the fireplace may cut the odor down.

It still may work though. Then again its almost the same amount of work as cutting hole in my house and venting outside..... The outdoor vents from my dryer are directly above my grow cabinet.

I'm all over this crock-pot idea all thanks so much ! As I say, the masking tips suggested here are great and have saved the day for me every grow...

If the crock-pot can go days without needing to be refilled this might let me sneak a grown in now ! (I'm getting low on weed)... I like to get away to Fly Fish for long weekends, without something that can go a few days I'm trapped at home...

ONA has also helped , a lot. Shame its cost's so much. The beads also dry up fast when the humidity is low..I keep humidity around 40% during flower.

My neighbor just got busted for growing pot in his yard. Honestly, I had no idea my property line extended that far...

I read this as a joke and got a good chuckle. (if it was)....

Funny thing is I'm 100% legal to grow 4 plants where I live. (I grow one)

IF The filter is new you should have no smell in the room.i get it only when i open the door.there is a thing that happens if you have a too powerfull fan carbon filter doesnt work.there is some math but i dont know where it was

I've tried high speeds and low speeds on the exhaust fan, lower settings seem to let less odor through...

It might be time to try another carbon filter brand..... I'm leaning towards Ac Infinity or Terrabloom (I've done much research) I'd love a Can or Phresh filter but the cost makes no sense growing one plant...

I hope I'm not coming in as a "know it all" here all, knocking down your recommendations... All of these are excellent tips and I've tried many...

Dam ! I missed this trick and have made my own sploofy using dryer sheets many times...

If they go a few days without needing replacement this is another great trick I can use to mask odor...

Thanks !

I like hearing this and it gives me hope, maybe switching carbon filter brands will be the trick... What filter are you using? !

As I say, Ive seen many say that carbon filters are great but a little odor gets my for many.

ona will cemicaly bind to the buds and you will be smoking ona.never!use ONA!

And god knows what Turpentine or incense does ! ... Crazy but turpentine smells almost exactly like Northern Lights in flower... I know, I know, what a dumb thing to use..... I had no choice ! I splashed a little on some rags and kept it far away from my grow cabinet..

I won't be using ONA again, its not that it didn't work, its just the cost of replacing every grow is a little high... (Think I paid something like $25 for a big jar of Ona..

Thanks for the health warming, I was not aware of this

it works amazing. the problem is when you smoke the bud you get the taste of ona and slowly poison yourselfe

I'm guessing your a renter? Or if you are not a renter what's the problem?

Buying and installing a big fan in my basement, wiring it (electric) and then cutting an exhaust vent outside my home is not a small job... A man must know his limitations in life, it took me two days to install a garbage disposal.... (I'm no handy man !)

My bet is hiring someone to do this would cost well over 1K without parts... DIY is the only way and I've been putting it off for almost a year.. Thats why I'm running out of weed..

I like to compare this option to a common bathroom fan. Things can get smelly in a bathroom right? But those little low CFM fans will clear all odor out in an hour or so... I'm really hoping a high CFM installed in the basement will do something similar, I'm just not sure... Thats a big gamble if it doesnt work

Lol, well I'm alive but not sure for how long.... Been smoking Ona for a while now....

All joking aside, thanks for the health tip.... I know many may come after you for saying this though !

I love this hobby ! But I may need to pull the plug unless I can grow 100% odor free. There has to be a way? Can it be done? I grow Low(er) odor strains like Northern Lights and Durban Poison...They still smell quite a bit during mid to late flower... (and harvest)

Setup details:

I use a DIY locking metal cabinet with an AC Infinity Fan and a carbon filter. It removes 95% of the odor, but that little 5% is my problem.. The room I grow in is in my basement without good ventilation. Any small odor escaping builds up over time.

I'm considering:

Simple solutions:

Running a second carbon filter at the exhaust, either using a single fan or using two fans..

Maintain a masking odor continuously in my grow room. (even when I'm not growing)... Pine, Peppermint, hell maybe even a skunk spray might work...(slight skunk).. I've had great luck using turpentine, the masking odor is perfect, but I'm not sure this is safe in a grow room... " Honey, Why does the basement smell so much?'...." I've been watching Bob Ross and have started oil painting my love " (true story)

Complex solutions:

Install something like a bathroom fan in my grow room to vent escaping odors outside... I'm not sure how well this will work and it will be quite an effort and expense..

Running a large 8 inch carbon filter fan to scrub air in the entire grow room outside of my cabinet.. (in addition to my internal fan/filter combo. Con's expensive to maintain this for one plant grows...

Has anyone else come up with a way to grow completely odor free? Please let me know.

So I have the same issue myself and basically all I did was I’ve run a dual manifold that goes into my ceiling dumping out into my attic the two ports on the dual manifold are 6 inch fans and filters that turns into an 8 inch on the top side in my attic I have an 8 inch carbon filter post filter That lasts forever. I get at least four years out of one of those. Good to go.
