I have a grow tent setup in the basement. It is hard to keep the tent temperature above 50°. I don't want anything that is dangerous around the tent or in it. Is there a safe heater that does not run up the electric bill that I could use? I am assuming it is best to place the outside the tent? I am brand new to this. Thanks for any help! Can you move it out of the basement and onto the first floor. Basements are under ground they run much cooler then above ground. I use a 1500 w heater with a thermostat in the lung room not in the tent, keeping one room at 68-71 is fairly easy and low cost on the electric bill, but not in the basement it's very hard to keep temps high enough for me in the basement. I would move out of the basement if possible.

I use a radiator type heater. It doesn't blow dry air around and it's safer, I think. I was going to get this one but ended up getting a bigger tent so I have room for a full size. But this thing could work well.

Oh I wish I could. Space is quite limited until I can move to outside growing. I am hoping for an early spring. They are growing nicely but I suspect they would mature a bit faster if I could bring the heat up some.

I love that idea! That little heater would really slim and useful in the space I have. Thank you so much!

Good advice above oil heater cant catch a fire .
Next run do auto plants in the winter run the lights full power 24/7 to keep it warm .

Good idea. The photo in the tent with the autos should be done in a month or so. I will do a round of all autos next.

Also I changed my on/off time so that the lights come on at night and it saves me a lot on heat. It ended up working better with my work schedule too. Lights on at night was a great decision for me.

Yes, I am definitely going to make the schedule for lights on at night. The current schedule isn't working well with my job.

You want an oil heater. It does not effect the humidity like others and can touch the walls of the tent with out catching fire. This is what I use. I control it with my ac infinity model 69 controller with a uis plug.

My tent is also in the basement. Ambient temps outside the tent are usually 65 or so in the winter.

I use this vornado personal heater outside the tent, blowing directly into an intake duct:

It has 2 settings, 375w and 750w, and because it has a built in fan and is blowing directly into an intake, im able to use the lower setting and maintain 73-76 degrees during lights depending if i open the other intakes or not. Lights off temps are upper 60s, usually 68 or so. If its a particularly cold night i can bump it up to the high setting.

It does have a small effect on the humidity, but i run a humidifier inside the tent to rectify.

It has the usual safety features and i have it raised off the floor on a big ceramic plate, been running it for over a year now and haven't had any issues. Its also plugged into a GFCI outlet.

I have the same issue and don’t really want to heat the entire area. That flat Newair 400W oil heater looks interesting but the reviews people are heating entire rooms and state the thing gets very hot on the surface. Also there is significant delay when switching this thing on but I guess once it’s hot you just set a range within a few degrees for on and off via UIS switch.

What size is your tent? Also interested in what cam and shelf you are using…

Looking for a new small heater with manual controls and cool housing surface. Noticed the plastic grill on the small Bud heater I have is discolored. Will have to look closer at it.

I agree on the heater. My spouse will not like how hot it gets. It will be in the basement out of sight.

These are the camera shelves I use in my tent. It saves me the trouble of going down to check them if the tent is dark.

As for heaters, I am wondering about this type the type I have also attached a picture of.

Be sure you check your amperage on your receptacle.
Most residential ones are only 15amp and a heater runs like 13amp.
You may need a dedicated line or you can start popping breakers.

How are you doing the light cycle with the Photo and Auto mix? The photo is still in Veg at 18/6?

The photo was well into flower when I started the two autos. In fact, I chopped the photo yesterday. Yay!!! My first harvest! They were all on 12/12 while the photo was in the tent. Now I've switched it to 18/6. These are my first autos so I am trying out topping and LST.

I used oil radiator heaters since I first started growing. In my last grow, however, I started using a turntable to rotate one of my plants about a quarter of a turn every day. That worked well, but I noticed the side of the pot facing the heater was always much drier than the other sides of the pot. My guess is that the radiant heat was drying the soil. So, this time I'm using a smaller heater in my 2x2 tent. It only has an on/off switch, so it needs a controller. I've been testing it in an empty tent for a few days and it seems to be working well. It's small enough to point the air flow away from the pot. I am still using an oil radiator heater in my larger tent.

Also, it uses about 150 less watts than the oil radiator heater it replaced. The radiator uses about 650 watts and this one uses about 500 watts.

HUGE FIRE HAZARD, damp enclosed space. Put one in your lung room for safety

Fire hazards are a huge concern with everything I have considered. Second is the cost to run it. I may just have to deal with it in the cold months and see if I can still get a decent harvest. Summer temps should be perfect in that space.

I really appreciate all the input and ideas here.
