San Diego halts all actions against marijuana dispensaries

The policy change comes at the behest of the new Democratic mayor, who wants to create zoning rules to permit pot shops.

In memos last week to the San Diego Police Department and code compliance officers, Filner ordered that "targeted code enforcement" against marijuana dispensaries end "immediately." Both departments report to the mayor.

I find it interesting that they rely on "code enforcement" so much to make a case as they dont seem to be able to do it legally for sales,at least not under state law.Same thing happens in my county,you will rarely see the sheriff raid a dispensary but rather its code enforcement going after owners with excessive fines($1500 a day!)and threatening landlords with loss of property,fines etc.

Too bad the US attorney won't back off San Diego.
