It has been 5 days since these autos have broke ground after planting directly in soil. I have kept the temp consistently around 80F and the rh around 80. These haven't done anything since they've broke ground. One has only one cotyledon and the other hasn't opened. Please help. This is my first grow

it’s hard to tell but it looks like the skin from the seed is keeping it closed up. I always do a little doctor work and take it off. Not sure from the pics but I have it happen often. You have to be very careful. What’s the soil and what did you water it with?

Looking good! I would give it another week or 2. Also, next time I would say start them in something smaller, but I am also very new to this, so maybe someone else has different opinions.

I have Fox farm happy frog mixed with perlite in the top half and ocean forest in the bottom half. I watered with dechlorinated tap water but it's possible that my ph was off due to a faulty ph pen. I have since bought another. Could this have caused this issue? Should I start over?

I would see what happens. A couple more days and I’d restart but it doesn’t sound like you did anything wrong. One time without phing your water won’t hurt it. I would get another pen though and start phing it. The soil will buffer it to whatever the soil is. Don’t over water them though. They won’t need water for a while. Especially at 80 rh.

You're doing the right thing by watching closely, early growth can be slow and a bit unpredictable, especially with autos. At 5 days, they should normally be opening up and starting to show their first true leaves, so it’s good to stay alert. The one with a missing cotyledon might still grow, just a bit stunted. The one that hasn’t opened might be stuck in its seed shell, try gently checking it with clean tweezers if it still hasn’t opened soon. Don’t stress—this happens to a lot of first grows. You’re learning fast! 🌱

This definitely teaches more patience! Lol

If you have shell remnants you can very carefully remove with tweezers as mentioned. A tiny bit of water on the skin would help soften it up too. If it’s stunted for too long, I’d consider trying again as your time is limited for veg growth with the autos. I had three stunted out of my crop last grow and stuck with them and I should’ve replanted and been a week behind instead of what they turned into.

Also, they don’t grow much while roots are growing during seedling so maybe they’re just rooting.

It would probably help immensely if you were to watch a time lapse of a seedling. First they extend their tap out of the shell about an inch. Then they start extending up and pop out of the soil. Once they do that, they take a breather on top and focus on extending that tap to pull water and nutes from the soil. Once it does that, it begins growing at about an equal rate above and below the soil. This is a generalization but meant to explain why a seedling sometimes appears to be doing nothing but it's actually very busy doing shit you just can't see.

I'm going to remain patient, I just thought I would have more being they're autos

Just started growing myself for the first time as well and of course my very first plant was hired for NASA and lifted off like a bean stalk so ended up getting fucked up. I restarted two and from experience, unless I am wrong, this is kind of small for 5 days in my opinion. I usually get this the next day I have put my germ in the dirt. Five days later it's at least 2 inches tall.

I am a beginner also and may be wrong so keep getting info here and there. Just giving my opinion. Hope it helps.
