Seeds exposed to light while germinating

Hi guys

I had 40 seeds germinating in cotton pads placed inside a styrofoam box covered with a black plastic bag since it was close to grow lights.

While my friend was cleaning the tent he removed the plastic bag and light penetrated through stryofoam for 2 days until I came back and realised it.

Under normal circumstances I have %95 of my seeds popped within 36 hours.

This time, out of 40, I only have 13 popped which is not normal.

I know total darkness is required for seeds to germinate.

I believe light penetration decreased my germination success.

What do you think about this? May light affect germination rate this much?

Hello gladio,
Once I saw a video of a professional tomato grower which showed that the effect of light exposure doesn't negatively effect the seed germination process.
He had the seeds in his greenhouse with almost full sunlight exposure which all germ really well in those conditions, therefore I'd say it's not necessary to germinate in complete darkness..those were tomatoes but still seeds, hope it helps a little.
How close and intense your lights have been?
Were the pads still wet, drying out is very crucial.
